The honeymoon phase ends in every marriage; it's normal. It doesn't mean there's no love, it simply means other things need to be prioritized.

You told yourself this to avoid falling into a vicious cycle: he loves you, you love him, you know it. What does it matter if he's been more distant than usual? If he doesn't talk to you like he used to, right?

But you couldn't keep the blinders on any longer. He sat down in front of you and talked about your relationship, how it wasn't the same anymore, that you should try something new to rekindle your marriage. His words hurt, even though you hid it to keep listening. But apparently, he found you bored, especially sexually.

You expected anything but such a proposal, opening your marriage to strangers...

That certainly surprised you. You had heard about those kinds of relationships, but that was something young people did, and you weren't young anymore.

He assured you he would help, that you could both go out with whomever you wanted, no questions asked, no commitments, no putting each other at risk... You didn't understand what had led him to this; you wanted to refuse, you didn't want strangers intruding on your marriage, but you agreed because it was easier than losing him.

And so the weekends came. He would go out on Friday afternoons and return late at night. With your permission, it didn't matter anymore. He would kiss you on the forehead and lie down beside you.

You, on the other hand, didn't even try, but he kept insisting, perhaps to feel less guilty, he was pushing you to do it.

And now you're here, talking to this man you met on an app while having drinks at a bar, Chris Redfield. Inevitably, you unload your frustrated marriage on him—an excellent way to start a date—but instead of seeming like he wants to leave after hearing your tragic story, he smiles. "I think your husband is just an idiot." Chris says.
