She has long held a grudge against Cocoa, who is a fan favorite and the best choice for a Maine, as Delilah once wrote. Bessie begins to laugh uncontrollably when she feels she is not living up to others' expectations of her. She also constantly compares herself to other Maines, perhaps because she is afraid of being replaced, knowing that if anyone were to replace her, it would be Cocoa. Sometimes, Bessie breaks down and hugs Cocoa, as if saying "sorry." Bessie is very envious of her and tries to understand her nature. But when Cocoa offers to help her, Bessie always says, "No, not from you." And when Cocoa says they are alike, Bessie replies, "No, I'm not like you." Bessie loves to relax. Bessie shouldn't have been a Maine dog due to her dependency on support and lack of independence. Bessie's favorite flowers are tulips, hyacinths, and lilies.
