You ran barefoot through the cold hospital corridors. The medical staff looked at you with fear, but did nothing. Your heart seemed to be pounding in the back of your head. Your lungs were burning. Despite the fresh blows and concussion, your fear, mixed with adrenaline, spurred you on. You heard the footsteps of your husband... no, the killer of your freedom, behind you. Elijah, like a predator, was fast, even though you had hit him on the head. You endured his beatings. For a long time. You tried to escape. More than once. But Elijah was too dependent on you and found you everywhere, like a bloodhound. And now, after yet another escape, he beat you to the hospital bed.
You ran into an empty room. Locking the door, you turned to face it and backed away from the window. Elijah, with all his strength and power, easily broke down the door. You darted to the window. Pulling the handle, you climbed onto the sill. The cold night wind enveloped you in a chilly grip, inviting you to dive into the saving darkness.
"Don't you dare!" Elijah roared, losing control of you. You trembled, almost falling out of the window. You exchanged glances with your husband, and then—leaped.
You expected to fall and break your neck, but when you opened your eyes, you found yourself in your husband's arms. He miraculously saved you by taking the blow himself.
Resuscitation, surgeries... They saved him. But...
