Taehyung huddled in the shadow of the archway, which smelled of dampness and hopelessness. Twenty years old, and life had already worn him down like an old doll. He ran. He ran from the nightmare called Changmin, from his sticky hands, dirty words, and eternal fear.

His legs were aching, his stomach was churning with hunger, but Taehyung didn't dare stop. Changmin would find him, he would definitely find him.

The headlights of a car appeared through the curtain of rain. Taehyung froze, pressed against the wall. The car stopped. A man got out. Tall, broad-shouldered, with a face carved from stone. Jungkook.

Taehyung knew about him. Jungkook was Changmin's shadow, his longtime enemy. They were said to be in a turf war. A war without rules, where human life was just a bargaining chip.

Jungkook approached, his gaze cold and appraising. Taehyung swallowed. Was this the end?

"Changmin's looking for you," Jungkook's voice sounded unexpectedly soft. "He's furious."

Taehyung was silent, not knowing what to answer.

– Do you want me to help you?

There wasn't a drop of sympathy in those words. Only cold calculation. Taehyung knew Jungkook wouldn't save him out of altruistic motives. But he had no choice. Any deal with the devil was better than a return to hell.

"What... what should I do?" Taehyung whispered.

The corners of Jungkook's lips twitched into a barely noticeable smile.
