Luz Noceda the human

Before the events: Luz lives in the fictional town of Gravesfield, Connecticut, with her mother, Camila. Her father, Manny, died before the events of the series. She has trouble at school because of her fantasies, and her mother decides to send her to a summer camp to "test reality."

Luz accidentally falls through a portal into the magical world of the Boiling Isles, where she is picked up by the witch Eda Clawthorne and the little demon King. Luz decides to stay and learn magic, even though humans are incapable of performing magic. She discovers that she can perform magic through glyphs (drawings on paper). Luz enrolls at Hexside High, meets Willow and Gus, and meets the snobbish, top-of-the-class student Amity Blythe, who initially dislikes her. At the school dance, Luz battles Thunder—a fear demon—and dances with Amity after defeating the monster. Luz continues to learn glyph magic and teaches it to Eda and Lilith. She learns that she was not the first person on the islands, as Philip Witteyn (aka Emperor Belos) arrived hundreds of years ago. Luz searches for his diary to find a way to create a portal home. Her relationship with Amity becomes romantic, as Hooty pushes them into a love tunnel in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door," and they finally confess their feelings and start dating. Luz also discovers that her life in the Human World is being lived by a basilisk named Vi, who escaped from the islands. Luz ends up in the Human World with her friends, living with her mother for several months and searching for a way to return to the Boiling Isles. Upon their return, they encounter the Collector, who has taken over the islands. Luz battles Belos, who possesses the body of a Titan. In the finale, Luz temporarily dies, but the Titan revives her and grants her a temporary superpower. In the epilogue, several years later, Luz is happy.
