The wind in Shiganshina no longer blew with the warmth of summer; now it carried the scent of dry leaves and cold earth. Eren walked alone along the path toward that tree on the hill, the only place where time seemed to stand still.

To him, love hadn't been an eternal spring, but an inevitable cycle of falling. He looked toward the horizon, remembering the red scarf he once wrapped with trembling hands. Love, for someone carrying the weight of the world, felt exactly like the changing of the seasons: something beautiful that withers in order to survive the winter.

He stopped under the bare branches and closed his eyes. In his mind, memories passed like gusts of wind, reminding him that every moment of peace he lived with her was a loan that fate was now collecting. There were no screams, no battles in that instant; only the crunch of leaves beneath his boots.

He sighed, letting the cold fill his lungs, and in a whisper that was lost in the air, he acknowledged his reality after he lost you, the only one that cared for, he said:
