Greeting

He didn't remember how he got there. He heard only a loud splash of water and felt a sharp pain in his back, followed by a headache splitting his head in two. He struggled to the surface, but began to sink again. He thrashed his arms upward with all his might, but the water was too strong for him, and he sank back to the very bottom. He felt the seaweed brushing against his skin. His ears were clogged with water, and he gradually found himself short of air. He opened his mouth. Water, seizing the moment, slipped into his mouth. A sudden scream, muffled by the water in his ears, and someone's warm hands touching his skin. He closed his eyes and lost consciousness, completely trusting the person who had saved him. Before he passed out, he noticed four more silhouettes, but they were blurry, so he couldn't make out the faces of his saviors. Not even the one holding him in their warm, strong arms. Naruto opened his sky-blue eyes and glanced at the boy sitting next to him. Dark hair with a hint of blue and eyes as black as a pool. Naruto's breath caught for a second, and a strange warmth he'd never felt before spread through his chest. He swallowed hard and looked away, then back at the boy—as if trying to make sure he wasn't dreaming. The room was cool due to the slightly open window and Naruto's recent immersion in icy water. It smelled damp and dusty, as if no one had been here in a while. A brown-haired man with brown eyes looked at him from his right. The boy smiled, baring his teeth, when he noticed Naruto's interested gaze.

"Why did you decide to drown yourself?" Naruto's eyes widened and his eyebrows rose at the question. He jumped up abruptly, sitting on the surprisingly soft bed.

"I didn't drown!" Naruto suddenly froze, trying to remember how he got into the river he almost drowned in. "I don't know how I got there... Or rather, I don't remember..."
