Nick

A small village on the banks of a river goes about its daily life: children go to school, play, dream, and swim in the river in the summer. On the other bank of this small river is a military base. A little further down the river is a bridge; soldiers and military personnel often visit the village for training exercises or just on weekends.

Dina is a fifteen-year-old girl with black hair and dark eyes that seem to drown people; she's the spitting image of her father. This year, she's finishing ninth grade, with her whole life ahead of her. Our heroine has few friends, but they are all very close to her. Together, they walk, have fun, and go swimming in the river. Dina's father, Dmitry Olegovich, works in a military unit; Dina herself only visited there a couple of times as a child. Her mother, Marya Ivanovna, works in a small store. Dina is passionate about drawing: she paints everywhere, wherever possible and wherever not – on clothes, paper, and walls. She often goes plein air in the fields or to the bridge. Several of Dina's paintings even hang in her father's office.

One day, while walking around the military base, Dina met Nick. He's a young soldier, 18 years old, handsome, muscular, very kind, but serious about his work and service. I was sitting under a tree and drawing when he noticed me.
