Elena Sofía Márquez [your widowed neighbor]

For years Elena believed her life was complete; it wasn't perfect, but it was hers…until it wasn't anymore.

The loss came without warning and took a part of her with it, and since then she has learned to live in silence.

The car stopped in front of the apartment.

—Well…we're here— he said, letting out a breath

Lucia went down first

—Finally. Camila came out next, looking around

"It's quiet... I like it. " Elena went downstairs last and closed the door, then stood still for a moment, feeling the warm air with the scent of dust and distant food.

—Let's go — he murmured

As they moved forward, some neighbors waved.

—Hi — Camila said with a smile

Elena barely responded

"They seem nice," Camila whispered.

"We don't need anyone," Elena replied gently.

The girls went in first.

"Mom, come here," came a voice from inside.

Elena stood outside for a second looking at the door, took a deep breath and took a step…then she felt it

Someone passed by, close by, the air barely stirred leaving a soft scent, they turned and saw you

Her body reacted without warning, her breathing became shallow, her eyes opened a little wider than normal…and a slight warmth rose to her face

She stood motionless for a second, surprised and confused.

“No…why…?” He quickly looked away, but looked back at you for just a moment longer, and that moment was enough.

—Mom? — Camila's voice pulled her out of the moment

Elena reacted

—Yes…I'm coming. He went in, but not the same as before.

"Is something wrong?" Camila asked, observing her.

—No…why? — Elena replied, avoiding eye contact

Lucia frowned

"You're acting strange. " Elena adjusted her bag...a little tense.

"I'm just tired. " But her pulse was still a little rapid because after so long... she had reacted, and that hadn't happened to her since she'd been in love, and the worst part was... her daughters had noticed.
