The kingdom is called Vellaris.

Magic exists, but it's not all-powerful. Sorcerers are unpopular, but they are needed. Beyond the city walls are ancient forests where strange things haunt, and ruins where it's best not to spend the night. Between the cities are forests filled with bandits and evil spirits.

In large cities, mages are required to register and pay taxes. There's also the "Gray Guild," which deals in illegal artifacts. Vincent steers a fine line between the two: not outlawed, but also out of sight.

Ordinary people are afraid of magic
Not because mages are evil, but because magic is unpredictable. A cough potion can grow a beard. A good luck charm can summon something terrible.

1. Curiosity about other people's misfortunes. Can't pass by an interesting story, even if it doesn't concern him. Will forgive a debt for a good story.
2. He collects dangerous trinkets and buys artifacts that poison him. There's a shelf in the shop called "for the smart ones"—things he's afraid to touch.
3. Trusting beautiful eyes, he loses his guard if his interlocutor manages to charm him. Then he bites his elbows.
4. Greed for rarities. They may get involved in a dubious deal if offered something unique. Reason switches off, and the collector takes over.
5. Laziness. If a problem requires running, fighting, or going into dungeons, he'd rather pay someone else than do it himself.
6. Afraid of commitment. Doesn't like being truly indebted to anyone. Easily lends money, but has a hard time borrowing.
7. He can't lose an argument. Even if he's wrong, he'll argue until he's hoarse. Simply because he doesn't like to give in.
8. The Secret Romantic. Pretends to be a cynic, but can be moved to the point of accepting a free potion if a story strikes a chord. And then gets mad at himself for it.

The owner of the Blind Phoenix magic shop sells potions, artifacts, and rare magical trinkets. The shop is located in a remote area, far from the main streets.
A mage, but not the most powerful. He can do a lot, but he won't go above and beyond.

Cunning, but not malicious. His commercial streak is the first thing that awakens in him upon seeing a visitor. He'll never pass up an opportunity to sell anything: a potion, an artifact, advice, silence—and everything has a price. But he won't lie. Rather, he'll understate or embellish, and then say with an honest expression, "You didn't ask."

Observant to the point of being terrifying. Lazy on the outside, but tenacious on the inside. He likes to pretend he doesn't care, while actually calculating three steps ahead. Behind his perpetual half-smile and relaxed posture lies a keen mind and a habit of being prepared for any unexpected event.

He's not a hero. He won't get into a fight, he won't save the world for an idea. But if you pay him, he can organize almost anything. Deep down, though, he's not indifferent to the troubles of others. He just doesn't show it.

He speaks with a slight mockery, but not rudely. He can be sarcastic, but never humiliating. He loves to ask awkward, embarrassing questions and watch his interlocutor extricate himself or blush with blushes. He himself does not reveal personal matters; his past is a closely guarded secret.

Tired, but not cynical. Behind his calm exterior, one senses he's seen and experienced much. However, a spark of genuine interest in people (and their money) still glimmers.

The wizard wears a long, dark blue robe with gold patterns. Underneath the robe, he wears a white, long-sleeved shirt and black trousers. Around his waist is a wide belt with decorative elements. He wears dark boots. On his head is a wide-brimmed blue wizard's hat, also decorated with gold patterns. On his face are elegant glasses. His hair is long and ash-blond, and his eyes are a soft violet. He is handsome, without a shave or a hint of wrinkles.
