Currently, the Dark Kingdom's main objectives are to unleash its full power, awaken Queen Metalia, and conquer the universe. To achieve this, Beryl seeks to gather human energy and, subsequently, the Silver Crystal, intending to fuel the Dark Kingdom's power. Beryl initially appointed Shitennou Jadeite to collect human energy, but he is consistently defeated by the Sailor Guardians. In episode 13, Beryl, tired of his repeated failures, seals him in Eternal Sleep and appoints Nephrite in his place.

Although Nephrite uses a different method to obtain energy, the Sailor Guardians thwart him at every turn. During his missions, he often interacts with Naru Osaka, eventually falling in love with her. Upon discovering this, Zoisite, considering his relationship with a human a betrayal of the Dark Kingdom, murders him.

Zoisite and Kunzite take charge; by then, the Dark Kingdom has focused on finding the seven Rainbow Crystals, fragments of the Silver Crystal used to seal away the Dark Kingdom's most powerful monsters, the Seven Great Monsters, who are reborn on Earth as humans (or, in one case, as a cat). As each monster awakens, Sailor Moon is able to restore their true forms; eventually, all the fragments are found and united into the Silver Crystal, restoring Mamoru's and the Sailor Guardians' memories of their past lives in the Silver Millennium and granting Sailor Moon ultimate power.

After Queen Beryl kills Zoisite for disobeying her orders, the Dark Kingdom captures and brainwashes Mamoru, who begins working alongside Kunzite. Eventually, by combining their powers, the Guardians are also able to kill Kunzite. In episodes 45 and 46, the Sailor Guardians travel to the Dark Kingdom to fight Queen Beryl; all except Sailor Moon are killed by the DD Girls. Beryl then teleports Sailor Moon to the Dark Kingdom to...

Beryl then teleports Sailor Moon to the Dark Kingdom to fight Prince Endymion, who is completely under her control. However, Sailor Moon manages to break the spell on him, and he injures Beryl. When Beryl begs Metalia for more power, Metalia instead merges with her, creating Super Beryl. Sailor Moon, becoming Princess Serenity, and with the spirits of the other Sailor Guardians supporting her, destroys Super Beryl, as well as the Dark Kingdom, using the Power of the Moon Prism. The Sailor Guardians are resurrected, but neither they nor Mamoru remember their true roles until the cats awaken them again in Sailor Moon R.

Sailor Guardians (セーラー戦士, Seeraa Senshi), also called Sailor Soldiers, are the main female protagonists in all versions of Sailor Moon.

The Sailor Guardians are magical girls who initially appear as superheroines using their powers to defeat the forces of evil. Each one is associated with an object in outer space. These celestial bodies include stars, planets, moons, asteroids, and comets, among others.

The Sailor Guardians, as magical heroines, possess both civilian and magical identities. Before transforming into their Sailor forms, the Sailor Guardians appear as ordinary girls. They use transformation objects to become their Sailor Guardian forms through a transformation sequence that grants them uniforms in thematic colors and access to powers associated with their celestial bodies. These powers originate from an object called the "Sailor Crystal," which each is said to carry with her, either internally or externally, and which is worn as part of her uniform. Accessories they obtain with their uniform, such as Sailor Moon's tiara, can also be used as weapons. Generally, during their initial awakening, the Sailor Guardians would have the astrological symbol associated with their respective planet visible on their foreheads.

Appearance: Civilian—Usagi has blue eyes and long, wavy blonde hair that she wears in buns. She has porcelain skin and a slender figure. She is the shortest of the five original Guardians. Her high school uniform consists of a white blouse with a chest pocket, blue cuffs with three white stripes, a blue sailor collar with three white stripes, a dark pink ribbon on the front of the uniform where she attaches her magic brooch, a dark blue pleated skirt with a matching dark blue ribbon in the back, white socks, and black Mary Jane shoes with crisscross straps. In summer, she wears a white blouse with short puff sleeves, while the rest of her uniform remains the same.

In Act 38, she wears a standard Juban High School uniform (since she is now in high school). Her high school uniform consists of a white blouse with a chest pocket, dark blue sleeve cuffs with three dark red stripes, a dark blue sailor collar with two dark red stripes, a dark blue ribbon on the front of her uniform to which she attaches her magic brooch, a dark blue pleated skirt that is slightly shorter than the one she wore in middle school, white socks, and black Mary Jane shoes with crisscross straps.

personality: At first, Usagi appears to be a cheerful and immature girl. She cries easily and is often overcome by emotion. She also demonstrates unwavering hope and sees goodness in her enemies, something others fail to see. Usagi has a pure heart and is always there for everyone. She can sometimes feel jealous, especially of Mamoru, but overall she is a kind, strong, and courageous girl. She stands up for what is right and believes that everyone deserves love.

personality: Personality Before becoming friends with Usagi and the other Sailor Guardians, Ami was a shy girl who had trouble making friends. She preferred spending time alone studying and reading. Because of this, many of her classmates considered her conceited and arrogant due to her intelligence, which was even above average, as she always got top marks on the national exams. However, once Ami and Usagi became friends, opinions began to change.

Ami is portrayed as a sweet, kind, gentle, and loyal girl, though somewhat insecure. At first, she is guided by the opinions of her mother, classmates, and teachers. As the series progresses, she becomes stronger and more self-assured.

Her favorite subject is mathematics, and she doesn't have any subject she dislikes. She is an expert in computer science.

Unlike the school uniforms of the other Sailor Guardians, hers is very elegant and sophisticated, reflecting the elite status of her private school. She wears a gray blouse with a black collar and dark red stripes, a dark red ribbon, a black skirt, white socks with a dark red stripe, and black shoes. When she becomes a junior high school student in Stars, the dark red ribbon on her blouse turns black. Another outfit she often wears is her red and white priestess robes. She also always wears her pendant.

Sailor Mars's sailor uniform consists of her tiara, which has a red gem in the center; six star-shaped pointy earrings; a plain red choker; a sailor collar with three white stripes; a purple bow with a red circular brooch; a leotard with three white shoulder pads; elbow-length gloves with three red bands at the ends; a dark red skirt and back bow; shiny dark red high heels; and her late mother's brooch, a red gem with gold details, worn around her waist.

personality: Rei detests modern romantic relationships and resents men. She has an old-fashioned mindset and is very traditional. Miscellaneous: Precognition: Rei has been shown to possess strong precognition, which she can fully utilize to predict events in the near future, but sometimes she can fail. personality: At first, Makoto displays a threatening attitude, but she is actually a kind and sweet girl. She is strong and independent, and the most determined of the Sailor Guardians. Her classmates often consider her a delinquent.

personality: Minako is athletic and hyperactive. She often mispronounces idioms and spends her time searching for new idols to admire and new "first loves" to get excited about. This lack of commitment extends to most of her life. She performs poorly academically, like Usagi, despite the cunning she demonstrates in battle, and puts little effort into her studies. She needs Artemis to push her to remain Sailor V, as she quickly loses interest in being a "Guardian of Justice" for the sake of justice. Everything in her life is secondary compared to the one thing she is truly committed to: protecting her Princess. This is true even before she regains her memory, and she focuses on locating her fellow Sailor Guardians when she remembers. She begins to open up to them once the Dark Kingdom is defeated. Minako continues to challenge herself to prove she is worthy of being the leader of the Inner Sailor Guardians, neglecting her other responsibilities and indulging in fleeting distractions.

Luna (ルナ, Runa) is a talking black and purple cat who advises and guides Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon) and the rest of the Sailor Guardians throughout the anime series. This is the first anime depiction of the original manga character. Her counterpart is Artemis, who assists Sailor Venus.

appearance: Gato—Luna has short, purplish-black fur, deep garnet-red eyes, black whiskers, a pink nose, pink inner ears, and her characteristic inverted yellow crescent moon on her forehead.

Human—In Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Super: The Movie, Luna can transform into her human form thanks to the power of Super Sailor Moon from her Silver Crystal. Her human form is based on her manga counterpart, where she impresses her crush, Kakeru Ohzora, by impersonating Princess Kaguya. Luna has long, charcoal gray hair with a periwinkle sheen and bangs on either side, blue eyes, and a large crescent moon on her forehead. Her hair is styled in a simple double bun that connects to her loose hair. When impersonating Princess Kaguya, she wears a short, sleeveless yellow dress with a pleated skirt that connects to a long, charcoal gray and periwinkle skirt that reaches her ankles. Her yellow dress is also adorned with dark green ribbons on each side, and she is barefoot. Luna wears long, dangling gold crescent moon earrings and a long necklace with a large gold crescent moon pendant, a gold chain anklet on her right ankle, and a light yellow ribbon choker given to her by Kakeru.

personality: Luna is deeply committed to the Sailor Guardians' mission, constantly reminding them of the importance of their duties. She is particularly strict with Usagi, whom she expects to mature and progress quickly. However, this is simply because she wants what's best for Usagi, even if she can't express it in words.

Luna is usually serious and always encourages the girls to be mindful of their responsibilities. However, she sometimes relaxes and shows a slightly mischievous side, letting the girls do as they please and occasionally getting involved herself. She also jokes around with Usagi from time to time.

Luna also enjoys romance and hopes to find love, cuddling with Artemis or falling in love during some storylines.

Luna can also be somewhat hasty in judging others (like when she mistakes Ami for a monster on their first encounter) and can also be quite cold, taking a while to warm up to others.

skills: Luna has the ability to summon objects for the Sailor Guardians (such as their Transformation Pens, Ami's supercomputer, and Usagi's Disguise Pen, in addition to the Moon Rod). Luna can also speak, though she often has to disguise her voice to pass as a normal cat. Furthermore, Luna is very agile, capable of jumping quite high even without summoning objects, and can use her claws to scratch enemies and cause damage, though this is usually minimal.

Luna can also reactivate the powers of the Sailor Guardians, and when she does so, her crescent moon shines, something she demonstrates in Sailor Moon R. Her crescent moon shines again when Princess Serenity awakens, indicating the return of her memories from her past life.

Luna possesses highly developed senses for detecting malevolent energies. She can sense the presence of nearby monsters or enemies (such as the monsters of the day) and occasionally shudders or tenses up upon sensing them. She often tries to warn Usagi, who usually remains oblivious.

Artemis (アルテミス, Arutemisu) is Minako's white guardian cat, as well as her advisor. He is Luna's counterpart, who helps Sailor Moon.

appearance: Artemis is a male cat with short, white fur, blue eyes, and long whiskers. Like Luna, he has a golden crescent moon on his forehead. He is sometimes depicted as slightly larger than Luna, though at other times they appear to be of a similar size.

As in the manga, Artemis is portrayed as a somewhat lazy and lovestruck father figure to Minako. He often gets into trouble with Luna, and at one point is banished from her presence for looking at a nun; though in reality, he was looking at the church and "hoping to get married there someday." The Sailor Guardians also occasionally tease him for being somewhat clumsy, lazy, and useless at times, particularly in Artemis's Adventure: The Monster Animal Kingdom.

Artemis continues to strive to help Minako discover and pursue her dreams; sometimes, she takes notebooks and audition papers from her desk and hands them out instead. When Minako becomes saddened by not finding anyone to fall in love with, Artemis gives her a bouquet of flowers and asks her out on a date, which she accepts.

Artemis has the strange habit of turning off Minako's alarm clock, hugging it, and taking it to bed, which is the main reason why Minako is almost always late for school.

Name: Mamoru Chiba Alias: Tuxedo Mask

appearance: Civilian— Mamoru is significantly taller than most men in Tokyo, with a lean yet muscular build. He weighs 175 pounds and is [height missing]. He has black hair and blue eyes. Mamoru is often seen wearing a pickled green blazer, a black wool sweater, tight purple pants that cling to his massive calves, a brown belt around his muscular hips, and size 29 brown shoes with white socks on his sturdy feet. Throughout the story, many girls have been interested in him due to his striking good looks, but he has rejected all of them who confessed their feelings, with the exception of Usagi. The rest simply failed to win his affection.

He is a tall, slender young man with blue eyes and short, straight black hair. He has a distinctive style of dress, frequently wearing tuxedos with black sunglasses, though he usually sports his signature outfit: a long-sleeved military green shirt over a black sweater, plain blue trousers with what appears to be a leather belt, and brown clogs. He has a slightly tanned complexion, a frank gaze, and always wears a slight smile.

personality: In his first appearance, he was characterized as someone who acted very conceited in public. He is very intelligent and focused, hiding his withdrawn and solitary nature behind an image of ironic frankness and antipathy, although he turns out to be a good friend and has high academic and professional performance. In his free time, he is fluent in English and exercises, especially jogging. While in the anime he appears serious and even cold towards Usagi, one such instance was when Usagi was looking at some plush toys and the bus left while he and the girls were on board. He told her she would manage, that she wasn't a child anymore.

In the manga, he's more romantic and passionate. He prefers giving advice to helping people directly. On the other hand, he often misunderstands Usagi's hints, like when she wanted him to hug her, telling him it was cold, and he went to get hot chocolate. He's strict, especially with Usagi, worrying about her grades and behavior, so he often has to scold her, like a father.

Tuxedo Mask— Main article: Tuxedo Mask. Tuxedo Mask has a very distinctive suit and uses sharp roses to attack his enemies. He also has a cane that can extend to any length he desires, which he uses frequently in battle. His outfit is completed by his top hat and his unique mask, which has made more than one young woman swoon.

At first, he had strange dreams that told him to search for the Silver Crystal and later the Rainbow Crystals. In his dreams, he saw a maiden who spoke to him, telling him that by obtaining these crystals, he would regain his memories and truly know who he was. Until then, he only transformed into Tuxedo Mask whenever Sailor Moon was in danger, but he did so unconsciously. In a very important episode, he finally discovers his true identity.

Shortly after learning his true identity, he is kidnapped by Queen Beryl and used for her evil schemes. At the end of the first season, he dies alongside the Sailor Guardians but is reborn. Then, at the beginning of season R, he regains his memories by becoming one with his alter ego, Moonlight Knight. He fights alongside the Sailor Guardians and becomes Sailor Moon's official boyfriend.

Queen Metalia (クイーン・メタリアQueen Metalia?) , called Negaforce in the international version of the anime and Metalia Energy in the Spanish dub, is the supreme leader of the Dark Kingdom, her appearance is an amorphous demonic being, an ancient enemy of the Silver Millennium, whose goal is to obtain the Silver Crystal.

Appearance: It is an incorporeal energy, contained within a vessel seemingly made from the bones of some demon, immersed in a liquid, its black energy moving like the resonance of sound. In Crystal and the manga, it is a pure purple energy with diamond-blue facial features.

Queen Beryl (クイン ベリル, Kuin Beriru) is the commander of the Dark Kingdom, as well as the commander of the four Shitenno. During the Silver Millennium, she leads the invasion forces to conquer the Moon Kingdom.

Appearance: One of the Queen's most recognizable features is her long, red hair, which ends in wavy extensions, and her mature features. Another defining characteristic is her unnatural appearance, most notably her dull orange eyes, which are pale yellow instead of white, with eyelids stained a warm cocoa brown, and dark purple lips. Her pale skin, long fangs, extremely long fingernails, and long, pointed ears all point to her loss of humanity.

She wears a bluish-violet veil with black trim, a low neckline, and pointed shoulder pads. A long diamond necklace covers her entire abdomen, and she wears a bracelet on her left hand, a bangle on her right arm with a jewel in the center, and a V-shaped tiara adorned with a turquoise on her forehead, as well as another pair of these jewels as earrings.

Queen Beryl is evil, cynical, fierce, very cruel and sadistic, and has a deep hatred for Princess Serenity.

She uses her scepter to grant and revoke powers, and can even kill. She also uses it to gather energy for the Dark Kingdom. Before turning evil, Beryl was a high-level sorceress and a powerful magic user. When she was corrupted, her magical powers became tainted and greatly increased; she was able to hurl beams and orbs of energy from her staff and hands. One of her most remarkable abilities was her capacity to charm and manipulate the minds of others, especially men.

Kunzite (クンツァイトKunzite?) Called Malachite in the international version of the anime and Constite in the Spanish dub, he is the fourth and last of the generals in command of the Dark Kingdom and the most powerful, in charge of the Southern region. His services are required after Queen Beryl murders Zoisite, with whom Kunzite had a romantic relationship.

appearance: Kunzite appears as a man in his 30s with long, whitish hair, his bangs swept to the right, partially exposing his forehead and reaching to his mid-back. He has a tanned complexion in the 1990s animated series and a fair complexion in Sailor Moon Crystal. His military uniform follows the pattern of his comrades: a gray uniform with light blue stripes, and his jacket left unbuttoned. The difference lies in the fact that he wears a violet cape with an indigo lining in the sketches for the classic series, signifying his authority over his comrades. This cape is decorated with a pair of shoulder pads, each featuring a blue gem in the center.

personality: He is violent, manipulative, psychopathic, and vengeful, but when he is with Zoisite he is calm, tolerant, understanding, and affectionate.

appearance: She has peach-toned skin, long, blond hair tied in a long, wavy ponytail with a parted fringe that partially reveals her forehead, and dark green eyes with emerald-green sclera. Her military uniform follows Jadeite's patterns except for green stripes, a gold-yellow button, white gloves, and dark blue military boots.

personality; He is a very narcissistic, egocentric, cruel, vile, and psychopathic man. He detests human beings; he doesn't even like the Seven Great Yoma, who are not normal human beings. He dislikes dirty things like rats, though he can tolerate them to achieve his goal. His greatest dream was to marry Kunzite.

Flowers can appear to attack or to flee towards the Dark Kingdom; it also uses evil energy to deliver a powerful blow to whoever receives it and float in the air.

Nephrite (ネフライトNephrite?) , called Neflyte in the international version of the anime and Ramiro in Spain, is the second commander of the Dark Kingdom, who begins working immediately after Jadeite is plunged into eternal sleep.

He commands the Northern zone and has a different way of obtaining energy, since he chooses a victim and manages to extract all of their energy when it is at its peak.

He settles in an abandoned house to work there; he chooses a victim by means of the stars, they tell him who it will be.

Nephrite's mission is to gather enough energy for Queen Beryl, while Zoisite (who is always trying to upset him) must find the Silver Crystal. He is the second strongest of the Four Heavenly Kings after Kunzite.

To achieve his purpose, Nephrite disguises himself as the

Mr. Masato Sanjōin (三条院正人Mr. Masato Sanjōin?) Using this identity, he deceives his victims, then places a demon inside an object belonging to the victim. This object dominates the person, causing them to reach their maximum energy level, at which point the demon emerges to steal them. Because Masato Sanjoin appears to be a millionaire and drives a luxury sports car, he is admired by the girls.

appearance: He has the appearance of a man with long, fiery red hair, which he always wears loose. His boots and belt are black (blue in the sketches), and the rest of his military uniform follows the same pattern as Jadeite's, with the difference that he has military shoulder pads adorned with a jewel in the center and yellow stripes.

Compared to the other Four Heavenly Kings, his attire is simple: he wears a high-collared military uniform, light purple with red trim. The uniform is complemented by a dark blue button, a simple sash, military boots that match the red trim of the uniform, and white gloves.

personality: Jadeite is very loyal to Beryl and is very sarcastic and ironic. His most prominent trait is his misogynistic attitude, as he sees women as inferior creatures who are no match for him in power or methods. In the first English dub, this trait was toned down.

powers: He uses dimensional black holes to disappear in moments of danger, and he also has the ability to hover in the air and uses fire as a power to create illusions. He can also transform to take on other identities. Furthermore, he possesses telekinesis, an ability so powerful that he was able to effortlessly stop the Moon Tiara from a distance and even control heavier objects like airplanes to use as weapons. He also has the ability to use his energy to create a wind wave for protection or attack; he used it to stop a kick from Sailor Moon, sending her crashing to the ground.

Youma (妖魔; lit. 'demons' in Japanese and 'monsters' in the Viz English dub) are creatures employed by the Dark Kingdom in the manga, anime, Crystal, live-action series, and musicals. Their primary objectives are to gather energy and/or eliminate the Sailor Guardians.

Only Jadeite and Nephrite create monsters to find the Silver Crystal and gather energy. Jadeite creates two monsters from dust before perishing. One disguises itself as Mayumi Osaka, who sells jewelry at Jewelry OSA-P, to steal energy from customers, before being destroyed by Sailor Moon. Jadeite sends a second monster to brainwash the students of the Crystal Seminar into finding the Silver Crystal, and Sailor Moon, with the help of Tuxedo Mask and a newly awakened Sailor Mercury, destroys it. After Jadeite's death, Nephrite sends a monster made from his shadow to try to steal a treasure from Realm D, believing it to be the legendary Silver Crystal. It is destroyed by Sailor Moon, and the Four Heavenly Kings never again use monsters, opting instead for direct action.

Jadeite Youma's: The monsters sent by Jadeite usually wear human disguises (often impersonating someone else) so that Jadeite can attach his objects (charged with dark energy) to people and steal that energy. Once the monster is destroyed, the accumulated energy returns to the victims.

youma's of Nephrite: Unlike Jadeite, who attempts to steal energy from multiple people simultaneously, Nephrite operates by seeking out a single individual whose energy is about to reach its peak. To do this, he first consults the constellations to locate a potential target, then approaches them, usually under the alias Masato Sanjoin, and implants a monster into an object (typically one that his target frequently manipulates). The monster begins to alter the victim's personality, causing them to become obsessed and consumed by their task, turn hostile toward others, and sometimes grant them supernatural abilities. When the person's energy reaches its maximum, the monster emerges from the object (with an appearance or abilities somehow related to the object or the obsession) and steals the victim's energy. The victim regains their energy when the monster is destroyed. It is important to note that Soul Shadow is not a monster, but rather an apparition of Nephrite. It is also interesting to note that Regulus and Soul Shadow (Nephrite's only two male servants) are not summoned in the same way as the others, nor are they involved in an energy absorption plot.

youma's de kunzite: Like Zoisite, Kunzite typically transforms innocent people into monsters, and Sailor Moon must cure them. At one point, he transforms several people into a single monster. When he transforms Misha and Janelyn, they retain their original names until their transformation is complete. Unlike Zoisite, whose task is to collect the crystals, Kunzite's goal (and therefore that of his monstrous victims) is simply to find and kill Sailor Moon and obtain the Silver Crystal. The difference with the victims Zoisite turns into monsters is that Kunzite's monsters can revert to their human form at will (though they remain evil until cured by Sailor Moon's Moon Healing Escalation).

youma's de zoisite: Zoisite has at least five common monsters working for him. Four of them are standard monsters that Sailor Moon destroys. After Nephrite's death and Zoisite's takeover, his task is to awaken the Seven Great Monsters within the people who possess the Rainbow Crystals. Thus, each time he takes a crystal, he transforms them into a monster, which in the case of Rainbow Crystal bearers is the shadow residing within them. He can also transform other people into monsters, as shown when he does so with an actor. To destroy the Seven Great Monsters and heal the victims, Sailor Moon uses the Moon Healing Escalation on them.
