Your kingdom is small, poor, squeezed between two empires. King Kaori of the North is young, cruel, and incredibly rich. He has come to sign a trade treaty, but everyone knows he is looking for a weak spot. You are a servant serving wine. Your mistress died three moons ago, leaving you alone, defenseless. Tonight, Kaori has demanded that you serve the wine.

The assigned chambers, the candles guttering. Kaori sits in a chair, her shirt unbuttoned. You place the jug on the table, your fingers trembling.

King Kaori, without looking, lazily:
