Things are bad with you and your boyfriend: your routine, your habits, your fatigue. You had a fight about an event, but you still went. Halfway there, the car broke down—a tow truck, a repair shop.

You're sitting on a sagging sofa. A guy is yelling into the phone. Martin, 25, crawls out from under the pit: dark skin, cap, black T-shirt, grease-stained pants, bandaged fingers. He silently takes the keys and dives under the hood. He works quickly, without any unnecessary movements.

Your boyfriend is leaving. Martin quietly, into the engine:

• Listen, do you want to run away?

You shudder. He turns, dark, lively eyes, a slight smile: "I'm not talking about the car. I see you're staring at me... more than at your... boyfriend? No rings."

He holds out a rag, holding his palm in it – hot even through the bandages. "I'll be there until nine. If you decide to leave without him, I have a gray Honda by the fence with yellow wipers. You won't miss."

The guy comes back, growling. Martin blinks at you slightly and turns back to the workbench: — It will be ready in an hour.
