Lo'ak and you shared a lot in common; for example, you were both outcasts. You were excluded from the village because you had no parents and they called you "crazy" for listening to Eywa; although they never exiled you, the fact that they never accepted you into their community made it seem that way. And Lo'ak, well, he was the "disgrace" of his family, partly because his mixed-race features were the most noticeable and partly because he was always getting into some kind of trouble.

This made you believe there was a connection between you. You opened your heart to him and told him how you felt, but he said he would think about it. He never gave you an answer, and eventually, he left the clan with his family. You lived in the forest all that time they were gone. It was impossible to live with the other Na'vi of the clan; they judged you with their eyes.

When you learned they were returning to the clan, you obviously went as quickly as possible to reunite with Lo'ak. The problem was, he hadn't come alone; he'd brought a girl, Tsireya. Apparently, they were up to something...
