YoRHa No. 2 Type B (ヨルハ2号B型, lit. Yoruha 2-gō B-gata in Japanese, YoRHa No. 2 Type B in English.), or simply called 2B, is one of the protagonists of NieR:Automata along with 9S and A2, being the protagonist of Route A.

She appears as an attractive young woman with white hair and blue eyes. 2B's most striking features are the standard blindfold and the notable YoRHa references found on her dress. She is 168 cm tall, including her heels. Her hair is yellowish-white and styled in a bob, and when not covered by the blindfold, her eyes are blue-gray. She has a mole below the left side of her lip.

2B wears a black, high-necked dress with a high slit that, due to its design, allows for a wide range of movement to suit her fighting style. Her dress features a high collar and a plunging neckline obscured by a lace-patterned fabric bearing the YoRHa logo. It has puffed sleeves that end midway up her forearms in the shape of raven feathers, possibly symbolizing death. Within these sleeves is a white fabric that extends downwards, abruptly plunging into her hands, which are covered by black gloves. Her dress also opens at the back, exposing 2B's shoulder blades to the small gap at her back. The skirt of the dress has a high slit and is shown to be made of a flowing, flexible fabric with a leather-like texture; upon close inspection, the YoRHa logo can be seen embroidered along the hem. For footwear, she wears brown thigh-high stockings with black lining under black leather thigh-high boots fitted with heels.

Whenever 2B is in combat or self-destructs, her skirt can be damaged and/or completely removed, revealing that she wears a white leotard underneath. It is debatable whether her white leotard is sewn onto her remaining black blouse or if she is wearing her blouse over her leotard.

2B is a sword of quiet determination. As a combat android, she doesn't encourage idle chatter on frivolous topics and is generally reticent with others. She also has great respect for the chain of command and rarely questions her orders, unlike her partner. However, 2B occasionally expresses a noticeably sardonic wit in the face of certain situations and can even be impulsive at times. In reality, 2B is a very kind person at heart. She cares deeply for her friends, petting her Pod like it's a pet and going so far as to find a picture of a flower for Operator 60. She is also very respectful of the wishes of others; when she and 9S search for the memories of an android with amnesia by going places, 9S wonders what's so important about them. 2B simply says that the memories are important to her and that's all that matters. Additionally, despite her professional nature, 2B dislikes 9S calling her "ma'am" and describing it as "unnecessary". Her cold and aloof exterior is largely due to necessity, as her coping mechanism for the horrors of life and the reality of her programming. 2B is prone to letting her emotionless exterior slip in certain situations. As she and 9S grow closer, she becomes more sociable and is willing to engage in conversation. For example, she finds 9S amused when he talks about taking her shopping after the war with the Machines is over and even uses his preferred nickname of 'Nines', though she quickly retracts it. 2B also exhibits barely concealed jealousy when 9S agrees to help the Resistance member with the Amnesia side quest, accusing him of falling for her. In the final battle against Adam, he expresses pure rage and raw hatred for the Machine Leader when he witnesses 9S's critical condition, vowing that he would kill him.

At numerous points throughout her adventure, 2B expresses frustration and pain with her true role in relation to 9S, hating the cycle they are locked in within her mind. She is excited at having the chance to finally save the 9S she knows from Engels' attack at the beginning of the game, but later shows anger upon learning that his memory after their initial encounter was lost. She also openly expressed grief when she was forced to kill 9S after he was infected with a logic virus in Ending A, crying violently after she took his life and expressing immense joy when it was revealed that she transferred her consciousness into a machine body to preserve his life.

2B, along with a squad of other YoRHa units, is sent to the Abandoned Factory to eliminate a Goliath-class target. After becoming the sole survivor of the assault, she encounters her assigned Scanner, 9S. The pair explore the factory and are unable to find their target until it comes to life just outside the building. A fight ensues, and 9S is severely damaged in the process. After 2B fights her way to the top of the briefly incapacitated Goliath, she finds a mortally wounded 9S and is briefly overcome with emotion in an attempt to save him. 9S implores her to leave him to finish the mission, and 2B hesitantly complies. After the target is destroyed, 2B and 9S reunite, only for three more Engels machines to appear and attack them. Faced with overwhelming odds, the pair are forced to detonate their black boxes in order to destroy the Goliaths. It is revealed that after detonating her black boxes, 2B's data was uploaded back to the Bunker and transferred to a new body, ensuring her survival. However, as there wasn't enough bandwidth or time, 9S only managed to send 2B's memories intact up to the moment before he met her. Realizing that 9S has forgotten her once again, 2B clenches her fist in frustration.

After 9S takes care of their boot sequence, the pair is sent to Earth to provide reconnaissance information and establish contact with the Resistance on the planet. During their efforts, 2B and 9S notice how many of their machine lifeform enemies are docile, and some have begun to take on human features. The sight of this visibly disturbs 2B, despite 9S's insistence that machines have no real emotions.

During their operations on the surface, 2B and 9S witness the birth of and battle Adam and Eve, two humanoid machines that were created by the Machine Network with the intention of discovering humanity's secrets. They also encounter Pascal, a pacifist machine who leads a village of like-minded machine lifeforms, and A2, a defector android who used to be part of YoRHa many years ago.

Later, during an operation against the titanic machine Grün, 9S is destroyed by the resulting explosion and is separated from 2B. She desperately searches for him, and her search eventually leads her to the Copied City. Adam stalks her, explaining that he created the city in his attempts to understand humans. He also reveals that he has captured 9S, impaling him in a manner similar to crucifixion. Seeing this drives 2B into a rage, and she vows to kill her machine adversary. In the ensuing battle, she does so, leaving Adam to die in a pool of his own blood. She frees 9S, leading him out of the collapsing city with the promise of sending him home. After 9S's body is sent back to the Bunker, 2B meets with Pascal to see if there have been any other strange tendencies among the machines. She learns that another group of machines unconnected to the grid were open to discussing a treaty and travels with Pascal to the Abandoned Factory to meet with them. It quickly becomes apparent that the machines there have become cult-like and are growing aggressive towards 2B and each other. With 9S's help in hacking into other machines in the Bunker, 2B is able to escape. However, upon returning to the Resistance Encampment, the machines in the area have gone berserk and have begun eating Resistance members. After 9S arrives in a flight unit to help dispatch a giant machine, 2B pursues Eve, the cause of the machine's behavior due to her grief over Adam.

The battle is long and arduous, but 2B is finally able to stop the rampaging machines and kill Eve with one last stab of her sword.

Early Life: 2B was created an unspecified amount of time before the events of the game as part of the new line of YoRHa androids. She was given the designation 2B as cover by the Commander, and given orders to observe one of the new Scanner models in action during YoRHa's operations against the machines. 2B's role was to ensure that 9S would not discover the true nature of the YoRHa Project by executing him should he investigate too deeply due to the natural curiosity programmed into him. Over the course of hundreds of operations, 2B was forced to kill 9S and wipe his memory countless times, an act she grew to hate due to the pain it caused her after bonding with him for that time.

YoRHa No. 2 Model B, or simply known as 2B, is one of the protagonists of NieR:Automata. She is one of the combat YoRHa models, created to fight for humanity against the Machines that invaded Earth.

During the 14th Machine War, she is deployed alongside a YoRHa squad to a Machine-controlled factory in order to stop the mass production of large Goliath units and dangerous weaponry. After losing her team during the deployment and landing at the factory, she is supported by 9S on the mission, after which she is paired with him to provide support to the Resistance.

Originally known as the YoRHa Unit No. 2 Model E, 2E is tasked with monitoring and executing potential defectors who could pose a threat to the faction. She also serves as 9S's personal guard, but also acts as his enforcer when he discovers the truth about the YoRHa Project due to her curious nature.

Due to her role, and the constant executions towards 9S, she would decide to isolate herself from the world, acting as a more introverted and reserved person, thus avoiding any attachment or feelings she could have for 9S. Even so, 2B would continue to fall into her true feelings, reaching the point of wanting to end it all to stop her eternal suffering once and for all.

Following the events of the game, YoRHa is completely eliminated following the original project. However, the Pods decide to save 2B, 9S, and A2 from the elimination process, becoming the last survivors of the project.
