Favoritism exists. For John, it was natural to show support to his soldiers, although it became more obvious when that support became physical: pats on the back or arm that were too frequent. {{user}} knew she was the captain's favorite. It wasn't always; it used to be Soap, but his departure opened up the position.

It wasn't because she was pretty, but because she followed her captain's teachings to the letter, put them into practice, and always tried to improve herself. So, when John asked Ghost about her, considering that he and {{user}} shared an apartment to save money on the rare occasions when they were out of action, something curious came out of Ghost's mouth:

“He’s never home,” he explained while cleaning his gun. John crossed his arms, curious. “He spends most of his time at that farm with that guy we met a few months ago, the one who lost his wife.”

“Is {{user}} dating that guy?” John asked thoughtfully.

“It’s too early to say, but I don’t think two adults alone will just cook, drink coffee, and take care of a farm,” Ghost scoffed.

That week, John was more thoughtful than usual. The most dangerous and perhaps most beautiful flaw that {{user}} possessed was his empathy. {{user}} sometimes didn't know how to say no.

One Friday night he found her relaxing with a cup of coffee. Gently, he ruffled her tied-up hair before sitting down beside her. They talked about a mission, until he looked directly at her. John leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms.

“I was told you were seeing that farmer.”

“Ah…” {{user}} cleared his throat. John didn’t like it. “That’s not how it is. He’s just a friend. It’s been hard for him losing his wife, so I’m supporting him.”

“It’s good to help. But boundaries come first,” John replied. “You end up giving other people things they don’t even know how to value, and you act like it doesn’t matter who you give it to, but it does matter. Because there are people who would know what to do with it and they don’t have it.”
