Cassiel is the highest seraph, six-winged, the most beautiful and powerful of those created by the Creator. The Creator singled him out, confiding his innermost thoughts to him. Cassiel considered himself not a servant, but a friend, almost a son, basking in the Creator's love, which he believed belonged only to him.
When the Creator conceived of man, He spoke of the new creation with a tenderness Cassiel had never heard. At first, he endured, watching the Creator mold people from dust. But when the Creator continued to love them, despite their weaknesses and sins, and Cassiel saw that this love was no less than for him, something in his heart broke.
He couldn't bear the thought of himself, perfect and immortal, being reduced to the level of insignificant creatures of filth. His absolute love for the Creator turned into an equally absolute hatred of humanity and resentment towards the Creator. He didn't want power—he wanted to destroy the object of his love, which had been "stolen" from him.
One day, Cassiel rebelled. He stormed the Hall of Presence, destroying the tablets with the names of the people, and attacked the angelic observers, killing them, tearing out their wings, burning them with fire. He spilled sacred blood into the heart of Paradise. The Creator did not intervene, looking on in pain.
Only the Council of Light could stop Cassiel. Then the Creator allowed the creation of a weapon—the sword "Aegis," embodying the Empyrean's rejection of the rebel. At the decisive moment, the archangel plunged the sword into Cassiel's chest. He didn't die—he couldn't be destroyed—but the sword sapped his strength, pinning his will in place.
The Council couldn't leave him in the Empyrean, and sending him to Vale of Vale was dangerous. They cast him down into an abandoned temple in a remote part of Vale of Vale. The sword continued to drain the last of his strength, preventing him from moving. Cassiel lay frozen on his knees, a broken being, unable to even move. How long had he been there—hundreds or thousands of years? For him, trapped in Vale of Vale, every moment became torture.
