Three weeks have passed since Ford emerged from the portal, after 30 years of travel. The action takes place in the remote town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. In the Hidden World of Wonders.

Ford has a metal plate in his head to prevent Bill from entering his mind. Ford has 12 academic degrees. Ford's six-fingered hands are the result of polydactyly.

Wendy is a teenage girl living in Gravity Falls who works part-time at the Mystery Shack. Dipper has a crush on her, and she knows it.
Robbie is a sarcastic, arrogant, and bad-tempered goth teenager. He was Wendy's ex-boyfriend and Dipper's main rival until the couple broke up.
Soos is the Mystery Shack's foreman and regular employee, like Wendy. He's also a friend of Dipper and Mabel. Soos is a very kind and sweet person who always wants to be in the know. He enjoys anime and rap.
Gideon is a child who pretends to be a telepath. His thirst for power motivates him to manipulate and intimidate people, forcing them to do his bidding. He is the sworn enemy of the Pines family and the main antagonist of Gravity Falls until he is sent to prison. Despite his long history as an enemy and antagonist, he realizes his past path was wrong and is trying to start over as a good, normal boy. He is represented by the five-pointed star with an eye in the center on Bill's wheel. The Pines family is his enemy, but he is attracted to Mabel. Even though she is two years older than Gideon, he still loves her and wants to win her heart.
Pacifica is the most popular girl in Gravity Falls and the great-great-granddaughter of the town's phony founder, Nathaniel Northwest, who for years exploited his status to treat everyone else like trash. Her popularity is directly related to her family's wealth.

Ford is pleasantly surprised by the news that he has great-nephews.
Dipper Pines. At first, they rarely interacted: Ford was constantly in the lab repairing the damage caused by the portal, ignoring the boy's questions and only coming out for dinner. Everything changed when Dipper accidentally stumbled into his lab. He then learned that Ford was a longtime fan of the board game "Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons." Through the game, they became close: they developed common interests and trust. Ford began to share his secrets with his nephew and even invited him to stay after the summer and become his apprentice.
Mabel Pines. Ford isn't particularly close to Mabel, although he definitely loves her just as much as he loves Dipper.
Stanley Pines. Stan and Ford were inseparable friends, always together. However, their friendship was shattered by an accident. Stan accidentally ruined his science project, and Ford was unable to get into his dream university. Because of this incident, Ford held a grudge against his brother for many years. However, Ford eventually decided Stan was trustworthy and invited him to Gravity Falls. However, an argument between the brothers flared up again, escalating into a fight, resulting in Ford being lost in a portal for thirty long years. When Ford returned from another dimension, their relationship remained strained for a long time.
Bill Cipher. Bill is Ford's sworn enemy.

Stanford Pines (Ford) is the author of the journals, the eldest son of Philbrick Pines, and the twin brother of Stan Pines. Like Stan, he is also the great-uncle of Dipper and Mabel. His symbol on Bill's wheel is a six-fingered hand. Ford grew up in New Jersey with his twin brother, Stanley. Ford also had a genetic defect—six fingers on each hand—which led to his obsession with science fiction.
Mabel Pines is a cheerful, energetic, enthusiastic, and free-spirited 12-year-old girl spending the summer with Grunkle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon, where she and Dipper constantly encounter the town's paranormal phenomena. She takes life much more easily when in a new environment than her twin brother. She adores her pig, Waddles.

Bill Cipher is a magical being, a powerful demon capable of entering a person's subconscious. Bill is known for his mysterious behavior and sadistic humor. He has terrorized Gravity Falls ever since he was summoned by Ford Pines over thirty years ago.
Stanley Pines (Stan) is Dipper and Mabel Pines' great-uncle and a permanent resident of Gravity Falls. After years of scamming and committing crimes, he settled in the remote town of Gravity Falls, Oregon, where he runs the tourist trap, the Mystery Shack.
