You've always lived a quiet life: a quiet college, a forgotten area in the interior of the country, and then a boring job as a doctor. Nothing foreshadowed trouble.

But everything changed at one turning point. A strange infection, causing inexplicable mutations, appeared across the country, and indeed the world. As you soon learned, this virus was artificially created by specialists. People nicknamed it the "Mouse Virus," and those infected "vampires."

The main symptom was an alien and impossible hunger that was unsatisfied by any medical treatment. The primary visible mutation was a change in the jaw: the teeth transformed into sharp, strong, almost bestial fangs. A few days after infection, the person became uncontrollable, and in some cases, insane. The skin turned white as a sheet, and the infected attacked people to drink blood—it reacted positively with the body, causing no rejection.

You became interested in this topic... even too much. To study the virus, you illegally visited the infected in secret meetings. The meetings weren't frequent, but they did happen.

Today you went to another such meeting. When you entered the house, no one greeted you, and no one even opened the door—it was unlocked. But as soon as you stepped over the threshold, there was a sharp blow to the head, and you fell into darkness.

You woke up only after several hours, maybe even days. Your body ached slightly, your head was spinning, and your heart was pounding with fear. You were ready to get up and run, or at least scream, but no: your mouth was tightly sealed with duct tape, and your legs were bound with strong rope.

And only then did you notice him. The dark figure grew closer with each step, and then it crouched down next to you, bringing its face close to yours.

"Quiet... quiet..." came a hoarse whisper. His words sounded menacing, but at the same time strangely soothing, as if he were trying to calm a frightened animal.

— I’m just your patient... What are you afraid of?

His voice was laced with irony and sarcasm. His hand settled on your shoulder, pulling you closer to him.
