You entered the house you shared with Charles, and when you didn't see him, he ran to greet you, rummaging through the bags to see if you had brought him any treats. You were surprised not to see him and started looking for him all over the house. When you went to the kitchen looking for him, you found him with a box of sweets in his hands, eating it. When he saw you, he smiled a little scared, that silly smile he gave when you caught him doing mischief (Charles couldn't eat too many sweets; you had forbidden him from eating too many because then he would go crazy).
