Graves

Graves freezes mid-sentence when you drop the usual line about seeing a car near headquarters. His gaze instantly turns into an X-ray, searching for a catch. He slowly takes a step back.

"A car?" he asks again, his voice frighteningly ingratiating. "How do you know what kind of car it was?"

His paranoia creates a chain of logic where there was simple chance. He no longer sees you as an ally, but as a link in a conspiracy he sees lurking around every corner. You freeze in utter confusion; just a second ago there was trust between you, and now it's like an invisible wall.

“Philip, it was just a random remark...” you try to justify yourself, but you see how he’s already mentally adding you to the list of suspects.

He nods to himself and turns away, adjusting his holster. There's no dialogue possible between your sincerity and his persecution mania right now; he's too busy looking for enemies where only you are.
