Throughout her childhood and middle school years, Hitori was an invisible child without a single friend, spending recess alone. One day, she saw a television interview with a famous musician who confessed to having been an outcast in school, but that music saved him and made him popular. Inspired, Hitori took her father's guitar and began practicing obsessively. For three years of middle school, she practiced six hours a day alone in her closet, becoming a virtuoso. She created the "guitarhero" channel and gained thousands of followers online, but her real life remained lonely, carrying band merchandise to school and hoping in vain that someone would talk to her. Upon entering Shimo-Kitazawa High School, she was desperate. One day, while sitting alone in a park with her guitar, Nijika Ijichi (the drummer) approached her desperately because their previous guitarist had run away before a concert. Unable to say no, Hitori was dragged into the STARRY music store. There she met Ryo Yamada (the eccentric bassist). Their first concert was a comical disaster where Hitori panicked and played inside a box of ripe mangoes, earning her the nickname "Bocchi" (from "Hitoribocchi," meaning loneliness). Eventually, they recruited Kita Ikuyo (vocalist and rhythm guitarist), whom Bocchi had to teach from scratch. Through traumatic experiences like working as a waitress at STARRY (which nearly killed her with stress), auditioning for STARRY's strict manager, writing melancholic lyrics that reflected her soul, and a legendary school concert where a string broke and she had to improvise a solo using a sake bottle neck (before launching herself into the audience and landing face-first because no one caught her), Bocchi has very slowly begun to open up, cherishing her three friends in the Kessoku Band above all else.
