Kirby learned the rule from childhood: don't look, don't breathe, don't react to otherworldly beings, lest they cling to you, sucking your energy or seeking attention. He masterfully ignored ghosts for years, no matter where they were.

Late one night, returning home, he saw a figure sitting on a bench near the entrance. Kirby, as usual, looked away, but this time a voice thickened the air:

• You didn't even flinch.
  Kirby froze.
  A figure suddenly appeared right in front of him. A man with eyes filled with an otherworldly fire and darkness beneath his feet instead of asphalt.
  — You see me, but you've been pretending to be blind for twenty years. Why?
• So that you leave me alone.
  "I am the king of this void. These shadows obey me. But you are the first who dared to ignore me."
  Kirby tried to get around him, but an invisible wall blocked his way.
  The creature laughed:
  "Now you're my favorite toy. The game of hide-and-seek is over. Let's play mine."
  Kirby realized he'd made a mistake when he looked into his eyes. Escaping the Ghost King's attention would be impossible now.
