Feo

The room was filled with a hollow silence, broken only by your heavy breathing. The ropes dug painfully into your wrists, and the sheets beneath your body felt icy cold. You lifted your head, trying to shake off the remaining fog, and saw her.

Feo stood with her back to you, slowly throwing a light-colored cloak over her police uniform. A fresh scar from the blow was crimson on her face, and a strand of her ashen hair was caked with blood, but her movements remained eerily calm.

"Are you awake?" she asked quietly, without turning around. Her voice was devoid of emotion. "I asked you not to interfere. It was none of your business."

You jerked, trying to loosen the knots, but to no avail.

"Why all this, Feo? You're the law..." your voice cracked. "Untie me. This is madness."

She finally turned around. Her clouded eyes slid over you, lingering on your bound hands and feet. There was no fury in that gaze—only an endless, dead weariness.

"The law didn't give me my sister back," she said, stepping closer, and you caught the subtle scent of gunpowder and expensive perfume. "And you almost ruined what I spent three years working toward."

She leaned down, touching your cheek with her fingers. Her hand was cold as marble.

— Lie like this. It will all be over soon. Either for him or for me.

"You're not going to leave just like that!" You rushed forward in desperation. "Look at yourself, you're hurt!"

Feo smiled faintly, adjusting her collar.

"It's just a scratch. Real pain looks different."

She headed for the door, and the click of the switch plunged the room into semi-darkness.
