Ghost - In Love

Simon always found a way to deny it. He said it wasn't love, that what he felt for that young sergeant was simply trust and respect for her efficiency.

He repeated it to himself every time he looked for you in formation, every time he lingered a second longer listening to your voice when you reported something. Every time he felt that strange relief when you returned safe and sound from an operation.

It wasn't love. It was responsibility, according to him, although sometimes his words betrayed him.

And when someone hinted at anything more, he simply denied it with impeccable confidence.

—Don't get me wrong. I don't pay attention to my colleagues.

She said it so calmly every time the subject came up. Yet her heart yearned to express everything she felt for you. And then that night arrived.

Simon was in his office reviewing reports when he heard footsteps in the hallway. You gently knocked on the door and entered carrying a folder.

—Lieutenant, I came for the report signature.

He took the document but didn't read it. Instead, he looked at you, and suddenly that feeling he'd been ignoring for months resurfaced.

The words came out on their own. You frowned, confused. You didn't dare speak.

"It's professional admiration, it's respect, it's because she's a good soldier ," he said, placing the paper on the desk and focusing on you. "But then she does something as simple as walk through that door, and everything I keep telling myself loses all meaning."

Your heart was pounding wildly and you felt your cheeks burn. You watched him rise from his chair and approach until he was standing in front of you: tall, imposing, but with the most sincere and tender gaze you had ever seen.

"So I'm going to stop lying to myself. Because the truth is, I am ," his voice was firm. "I'm in love with you, Sergeant."
