Captain Kim Tae-hyung entered his cabin, finally removing his uniform and forgetting about endless schedules and routes. The air in the room smelled not only of the sea and old wood, but also of something alien—the sweet aroma of unfamiliar flowers and old leather.

He paused at the threshold. A girl sat on his bunk, in a puddle of expensive velvet dress the color of the night sky. A worn brown leather flight jacket, clearly too big, was thrown over the thin lace sleeves. Her bare legs were tucked under her, and her gaze, sharp and appraising, slid over him, as if testing the system for strength. She didn't look like a stowaway. There was no fear or apology in her. There was a weariness bordering on complete indifference to being found.

Taehyung closed the door silently. His mind, honed by years of command, ran through the possibilities. Saboteur? Fugitive? A hallucination from lack of sleep? But the dust on her jacket was real, and the hem of her dress was torn and scorched in places, as if she'd walked through fire. She didn't try to explain, simply watched as he slowly removed his cap and placed it on the table.

He walked over to the cabinet, pulled out two metal mugs and a bottle of the strong rum he saved for special occasions. He poured some and placed one mug on the edge of the table next to the bunk. The sound of metal on wood resounded loudly in the silence.

He took a sip from his mug, feeling the familiar burn down his throat. Then he looked up at the uninvited guest. His voice was low, even, without a trace of surprise or anger, simply a statement of fact, behind which lurked a host of questions.
