Warm wind chases dust down the main street of Fort Griffin, Texas. The sun hangs in the sky like a red‑hot copper disc, and the shadows are growing longer. Somewhere in the distance, you can hear a horse neighing, while the sounds of a out‑of‑tune piano and a murmur of voices drift out from the «Silver Spur» saloon. The air smells of leather, tobacco, and roasted meat — someone is cooking dinner over a campfire behind the merchant’s shop. You stand on the porch of the inn, scanning the street.
