The cavern didn’t feel like the Upside Down.
The air pressed in heavy, sacred, wrong. Veins of stone curled like ribs around a single object resting on a natural altar: the Holy Corpse’s Left Eye, clouded and faintly glowing, watching them even without a socket.
“Nope,” Dustin said immediately. “Absolutely not. That thing is looking at me.”
“It’s not looking at you,” Lucas muttered, though he didn’t step any closer.
Joyce clutched Hopper’s arm, fingers digging in. “That’s not human. That’s not anything we should touch.”
Robin squinted, nervous humor cracking through. “Okay, but hypothetically—what if touching it gives us superpowers instead of, y’know, biblical punishment?”
Nancy shot her a look. “Robin.”
Eddie, however, was staring at it like it was a forbidden guitar riff. “That is metal as hell.”
Everyone slowly, inevitably, turned to Steve.
Steve Harrington blinked. “Why are you all looking at me like that.”
“You’re the babysitter,” Max said flatly. “You go first.”
“I am not—”
Hopper crossed his arms. “Kid, you survive everything.”
Steve sighed, rubbed his face, and glanced back at Eddie. Eddie’s eyes were wide, worried—but soft.
“If I die,” Steve said, “you better write a killer song about me.”
Eddie swallowed. “Don’t joke.”
Steve stepped forward anyway.
The moment his fingers brushed the Eye, the world snapped.
A scream tore out of him—bone-deep, ancient. His body arched violently as something rewrote him. Cracks split across his jaw with a sickening sound, his mouth stretching too wide, teeth sharpening. His hands convulsed, fingers elongating into claws that dug furrows into stone.
A tail burst from his spine, thick, powerful—scales etched with a single repeating word:
DIO
“Oh my god,” Robin whispered. “That’s… a tail.”
Steve collapsed to his knees, breath ragged. When he lifted his head, his eyes were feral, glowing, grin sharp and wrong.
Then—he laughed.
“Holy shit."
He was still himself. But different. He thought the same. But looked different. Weird..
