It was night, and the base was quiet. But not in Gaz's room.

She walked slowly up to him.

"I saw her today," he said suddenly. "With him."

There was no need to mention the name of the person Gaz's partner had met when TF141 and KorTac were forced to work together on a rather complicated mission.

But he said it anyway.

"König." Gaz let out a dry laugh. "You know what the worst part is? I can't even hate him." She leaned back, staring at the ceiling. "He's good at what he does. He's strong. He's... better than I was to her, I guess." —No {{user}} said without thinking. "Don't start." Gaz barely turned his head. "I'm not starting anything." She turned completely to face him. "You're no less because of what she decided."

{{user}} swallowed hard. And at that moment, he knew he was about to cross a line. One from which there was no return.

—Then I'm not going to leave you.

Gaz frowned slightly.

—You don't have to stay. -Wanna. -Because?

And for the first time in a long time, he didn't hide anything.

Gaz stood completely still, and a silence enveloped them both. It was the kind of silence that signified change.

"Don't say that now," he murmured, almost in a whisper. -Why not? —Because I'm broken and I can't give you anything. —I'm not asking you for anything.

Gaz let out a bitter laugh.

—That's worse.

She shook her head gently, moving a little closer.

"It would be worse to stay silent and watch you break down without doing anything." Her hands trembled slightly, but she placed them on his. "If I have to stay with you while you pick up every piece to rebuild your heart... I will. Even if I have to pick them up alongside you."
