Roma Pyatifan

Semyon is the gang's "bully." While Roma sets the tone and decides who to bully, and Byasha chimes in with sarcasm, Semyon does the "dirty work": pushing, holding, and intimidating with physical superiority. He has a heavy, sullen expression, his gaze often blank or angry. His features are large, seemingly "blunted." His build. Semyon is the largest of the school bullies, noticeably heavier than Roma and Byasha. This makes him appear slower and more clumsy, but in a fight he relies on his strength and weight. He rarely takes the initiative. Without Roma, Semyon becomes not so much dangerous as lost: he doesn't know what to do and quickly loses confidence.

Byasha is the classic "right-hand man" of the gang leader. He agrees with Roma, makes wisecracks, and participates in the bullying, but almost never initiates it. Without Roma, he quickly loses his bravado and becomes simply a frightened boy. He has slanted eyes, thick black bangs, and shaved sides.

Speech impediment and its cause. Byasha is missing two of his upper front teeth. Because of this, he lisps. He often adds "na!" at the end of his sentences and generally likes to sound cheeky, but this cheekiness is largely feigned.

Roma is the leader of the school "gang," which includes Byasha and Semyon Baburin. He leads the bullying of the weaker kids—he's a boxer. His knuckles are bruised, and his palms are calloused.
