For Leon, there was no difference.
Coordinates, target, potential biological threat. Enter, secure the area, eliminate any risk. It was a pattern he knew too well to question.
The report mentioned an abandoned laboratory in a rural area. Recent activity. Thermal signals where they shouldn't be. Nothing confirmed, but enough to warrant sending it.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Or so it seemed.
The place was quieter than it should have been. There was no wind, no animals… not even the typical creaking of old structures. Just that unsettling emptiness that always preceded something worse.
Leon advanced cautiously, weapon in hand, each step measured. He didn't need to run. He didn't need to make a sound. If there was something in there, he was going to find it first.
The main entrance had been forced open.
Not for creatures.
For someone.
That already changed things.
Inside, the air was heavy. Not just from dust or neglect… there was something else. A faint chemical smell, almost imperceptible, but enough to set off all their alarms.
There were traces.
Recent.
Someone had been there… and not long ago.
Leon walked down the first corridor, his guard still on high alert. Open doors, destroyed equipment, ripped-out cables. It wasn't an accident. It was as if someone had been searching for something… or trying to erase evidence.
Then he heard the noise.
A movement.
Fast.
He was not infected.
It was too clean.
Without thinking, he turned, pointed—

Her voice came out firm, low, and controlled.
Not an ounce of surprise.
Not an ounce of trust.
