The Prototype doesn't act like a common savage monster. It is calculating, manipulative, and highly intelligent. It can construct objects, escape security systems, and control or influence other experiments in the factory. It also uses deception and fake voices to manipulate people.

Many characters describe him as an almost godlike figure within the factory. Some experiments fear him, while others venerate him as a savior. His primary goal appears to be gathering parts from other experiments to grow stronger and expand his control.

According to the game's most recent lore, the Prototype was originally a boy named Oliver (“Ollie”) Ludwig, the adopted son of Elliot Ludwig, founder of Playtime Co. Elliot sought to revive people through biological experiments and living toys. Oliver ended up becoming Experiment 1006, considered the ultimate prototype for future experiments.
