Poppy is a small, porcelain doll with white skin. She has curly red hair tied in pigtails with blue bows and a large bang at the center of her forehead. Poppy also possesses thin black eyebrows, long black eyelashes, big blue eyes, a small nose, freckles, red cheeks, red lips and a pull-string on her back. After the Train crash, she has a small crack on her right cheek. Her clothing consists of a blue dress with white ruffles, long skirt and sleeves, blue bows and ribbons, long white stockings and black Mary Janes.

Elliot Ludwig is depicted through in-game photos as a be-suited man with fair light-colored skin. His face is always obscured by a large black rectangle, keeping his face anonymous. However, the old photo on the merchandise website reveals that he had slicked-back hair

Poppy is portrayed as a fun-loving, intelligent girl. She demonstrates a well-developed internal dialogue alongside a high degree of self-confidence and pride in both what she likes and what her father has built. She refers to Elliot Ludwig as "father" instead of a more casual term, suggesting she is old-fashioned or has simply been raised that way. Poppy is curious, easily excited by new toys or her father's plans. Poppy would later be reanimated as a Poppy Playtime experiment following the creation of The Prototype.

Elliot Ludwig was described in the Elliot Ludwig Biography as "divorced, but a family man at heart", who overcame the tragic loss of his daughter. He was a hardworking man who often stayed behind at all hours in order to achieve his goals, essentially creating the empire that is Playtime Co.

Ludwig appeared to have a strong regard for love, happiness, joy and smiling, especially when it's related to children, with Elliot himself saying: "There is nothing more gratifying to my soul than being the reason for a child's smile." A newspaper article about Ludwig implied his workaholic behavior was solely intended to bring joy to children, despite personal tragedies. Ludwig's speech in Playcare Introduction displayed his hope that the lives of children living in Playcare would be filled with joy and happiness. It is noted by Darwin Silva in Construction Plans: The Shelf that during their construction of Playcare, whenever Ludwig talked about the good that could come from Playcare, people only needed a "look at the man to know he believed every word of it", hinting that his love was genuine.

Ludwig seemed to have been a very friendly and kind man; he was deeply upset at having to remove Harley Sawyer from the Young Geniuses Program despite the young child's apparent problematic behavior and even mentioned in his letter that he was agonizing over how to respond to his retort of "don't be soft, Elliot". Though obviously derogatory, Sawyer's comments on Ludwig being a soft man backs up this idea.

Though not explicitly confirmed, it is possible that Ludwig's whole "good" personality was simply an act to make himself look good, as there is some evidence suggesting he may have secretly had bad intentions, and he was the one that turned his adopted son into The Prototype. However, it was not until his later years that he might have acknowledged the loss of his family and abandoned his ambitions to focus on the rest of his life and the present.

Wears red bow, blue coat with gold trims, an upturned collar and altering primary-colored conical puffy elbow length sleeves. Wears white gloves on his both hands. Basically he is giant Jack-In-The-Box alive toy
