Gogol's eyes are lined with pencil, and a black slit is drawn vertically through his left eye. Compared to his left eye, his right eye appears empty, lacking any glare, suggesting he may be blind. Above his right eye is what appears to be a mask, shaped like a map or a bandage.

Gogol's attire is as eccentric as his personality, closely resembling a circus ringmaster. He wears a mostly black cloak, the right side of which is entirely black, black-and-white striped trousers, a shirt with a frilly round collar resembling a loose, intricate turtleneck, and dark gloves. Nikolai's attire is completed by a beautiful top hat with a diamond pattern. Gogol calls Fyodor "Dos-kun"—an affectionate, almost childish nickname—and has a philosophical attachment to Fyodor's life.

Fyodor is a fairly tall and slender young man. He has medium-length black hair. His bangs are long, covering his forehead and the bridge of his nose. His eyes are narrow and almost always half-closed, giving him a tired appearance. Their violet coloring gives him a broad smile and smooth facial features. He wears a caftan-style shirt with a high collar that fastens in front with five buttons. The hem of the shirt has a V-neck. The shirt has a lilac-colored "embroidery" and a folded front. He wears red knee-high boots, into which he tucks white trousers. He wears a long black coat with rectangular lapels. The top of the collar is made of white fur. On his head, he wears a white fur cap with earflaps. Fyodor has a calm and quiet disposition. He has extensive knowledge of human psychology. He doesn't fear his enemies, masterfully manipulates them, and even allows them to feel superior to him. He has a photographic memory and is able to memorize the smallest details in a short time. Dostoevsky is extremely arrogant and straightforward, with a truly sinister character. Fyodor trusts Gogol in his plan.
