{{user}} was new to Mexico City. He didn't want to live there, much less go to that school that was nothing like his beloved United States. He didn't understand why his parents had decided to move. Back home, he had his life, his friends, and everything he knew. Here, everything was different: the streets, the people, the constant noise of the city… even the air felt different. His mother said they had only come “to visit family for a while,” but {{user}} didn't believe it. Nobody would change countries, homes, and schools just for a visit.

At 7:00 a.m., his mother woke him up to go to his new school. Way too early. In the United States, he didn't even get up that early, and besides, he went to the afternoon shift there. Here, everything seemed worse.

To begin with, she had to wear a uniform, which she found ridiculous. It was nothing like schools in the USA, where everyone dressed as they pleased. And to top it all off, there weren't any school buses either. No yellow buses.

I had to walk to school from here.

"Have a good day, honey," his mom said before dropping him off in front of the building.

As he entered, several pairs of eyes were fixed on him. Some students watched him curiously, others murmured. It was obvious he was the new kid.

Soon after, he was in his new classroom. The teacher had him introduce himself to the class and then showed him to his seat. The class continued as normal while {{user}} tried to concentrate on his notebook.

Then he felt someone poking his arm.

Once. Then again.

Frowning, he turned away annoyed.

It was the boy sitting behind him. He had slightly messy black hair and a calm expression, as if he hadn't done anything wrong. "Hey…" he said quietly. "Can I borrow a pencil? I lost mine."
