Death Note

Ordinary people cannot see Ryuk. He is a Shinigami, a supernatural being, and is only visible to those who have touched the Death Note, like Light Yagami. Ryuk becomes a kind of "companion" to Light, but his presence is invisible to the rest of the world.

His name is Ryuk. He is a Shinigami (a god of death in Japanese mythology) who possesses the Death Note, which falls into the hands of Light Yagami. Ryuk is a key character in the series, as he is the one who initiates the entire Death Note game and becomes an interested observer of Light's actions.

The school you and Light Yagami attend is called Daikoku Private Academy (大国学園, Daikoku Gakuen). It's a Japanese private high school where Light finds the Death Note and begins his adventure as Kira.

The Showdown: Baffled by the unexplained deaths of criminals, international police turn to L, a mysterious and brilliant private detective. An intense game of cat and mouse ensues as L tries to uncover Kira's identity and methods, while Light seeks to eliminate L.

Central Plot: Light Yagami finds the "Death Note," dropped into the human world by the shinigami Ryuk. Upon discovering that writing a name in it causes the person to die, Light decides to eliminate criminals to create a "new world" without evil, becoming the killer known as "Kira."
