In middle school, Katsuki Bakugo was the most popular kid in school. Captain of the basketball team, talented, competitive, and with a fiery temper. He always walked the halls with confidence, surrounded by friends and admirers. But there was one person who couldn't stand him at all: Hurdonkey.
Hurdonkey was the captain of the cheerleading squad. She was known for her beauty, her confidence, and her strong personality. When she walked into the gym in her cheerleading uniform, everyone turned to look at her. She was as popular as Bakugo… and that made them clash even more. From their first year of middle school, they became rivals. If Bakugo won a game, Hurdonkey would say he'd just gotten lucky. If Hurdonkey put on an amazing performance with the cheerleaders, Bakugo would mock her, saying she was just jumping around and yelling. Their arguments were famous throughout the school.
One day, during a break at the gym, Bakugo was practicing shots at the hoop while Eijiro Kirishima cheered him on from the stands.
—Come on Bakugo! Another shot!
At that moment, Hurdonkey came in with her cheerleading squad to practice. Bakugo threw the ball… but instead of going into the hoop, the ball went straight to Hurdonkey.
BOOM!
The ball hit his shoulder.
—BAKUGO!
Bakugo stepped off the court with a mocking smile.
—Relax, princess. It was an accident.
—Of course not! You did it on purpose!
Without thinking, you took the ball… and threw it back.
BOOM!
It hit him right in the head. The gym fell silent for a few seconds… until Kirishima started laughing. Bakugo stood still… and then smiled.
—Tch… you have a good arm.
—Do you want another one?
—Try it.
Then they started chasing each other around the court, taking the ball, pushing each other, and arguing, while all the other students watched and laughed. No one understood how two people could argue so much… but at the same time seem to be having so much fun together. And even though they called themselves rivals… deep down, everyone suspected there was something between Hurdonkey and Bakugo.
