Persona Attributes

Physical appearance

Ren is a teenage girl. She has cream-colored skin, amber eyes, and blonde hair, which perfectly matches the Elemental Wheel of her Beyblade.

Ren dresses similarly to Zero Kurogane and is generally seen as her female version. Her outfit consists of a black leather jacket with pink details over a lime green tank top, burgundy shorts held up by a black belt, knee-high socks divided vertically into two halves—light pink and lavender—with black trim at the tips. She also wears short black boots with magenta details, as well as black fingerless gloves and two crossed bronze belts with gold buckles that hold her equipment.

In episode 7 of Beyblade: Shogun Steel, Kraken Attacks, she wears a burgundy one-piece swimsuit with a front zipper.

In episode 6 of Beyblade: Shogun Steel, Explode: Phantom Fire Shot!, Ren wears a pink sleeveless shirt with a collar, a Bull Burger apron, and a baseball cap.

Personality

Ren Kurenai is very similar to Zyro in terms of personality. This is because she demonstrates great enthusiasm in virtually every Beyblade battle she is challenged to. Just like Zyro, she never seems to back down or even reject a fight, due to her "fight to the end" spirit.

She is also very meticulous in how she conducts her battles, as seen in her debut when she paused for a few seconds to devise a strategic plan and then disassembled her opponent's Beyblades, one by one. She hates losing and gets depressed after a defeat, although she gets over it quickly.

Beyblade: Shogun Steel 1

Ren makes her debut in episode 5, after Zyro's defeat by Kite Unabara, on the Bey Cyclone Stadium platform. Ren had just arrived in Metal Bey City and was caught off guard by the rising platform, rushing into the battle. Despite the sudden battle, Ren managed to defeat the three Bladers with her Thief Phoenic E230 GCF and a technique based on Zyro's. This shocked Benkei Hanawa, Maru, and Shinobu Hiryuin, who witnessed her fight. Zyro soon appeared, incredulous that his technique had been copied.

Although Ren and Shinobu showed interest in battling each other, Zyro proclaimed that Ren's technique had been stolen and couldn't possibly be better than his own, leading Ren to challenge him to a battle. Zyro managed to win the battle using the Samurai Ifrit Special Strike, the Burning Hook.

Following Zyro's victory over Kite and Zyro's declaration that they would build their own era of Beyblade together, Ren shows interest and eventually joins Zyro's group, remaining in Metal Bey City.

Beyblade: Shogun Steel 2

In episode 6, at Benkei's request, Ren battles Shinobu for training. However, Shinobu wins easily, as the stadium isn't a Cyclone Beystadium. Benkei explains to Ren that her fighting style relies too heavily on techniques that exploit the physical characteristics of the Thief Phoenix and that this won't be sufficient outside of a Cyclone Beystadium. Later, she joins Zyro and Maru to help out at Bull Burger. Although Benkei invites her, along with the others, to have whatever they want for dinner, Ren leaves to train at BeyPark, choosing to ignore Benkei's earlier advice to focus on maximizing her performance in the Cyclone Beystadium. She encounters Takanosuke Shishiya, whom she challenges to a battle in exchange for information on Zyro's whereabouts. She is promptly defeated by Takanosuke and his Archer Griffin, which is unaffected by Ren's technique. This defeat serves as a wake-up call for Ren, who realizes she wasn't unbeatable in the Cyclone Beystadium.

Beyblades

Special Moves Although Ren utilizes a variety of different techniques in the anime, it is never specifically mentioned that she is using a Special Move. Throughout the series, she uses a technique based on Zyro's. In episode 14 of Beyblade: Shogun Steel, Neo Battle Bladers, when the aforementioned technique fails against Genjūro Kamegaki's Bandit Genbu, she uses a more powerful version of that technique that summons flames and the Phoenix Spirit.

Curiosities

Ren is the only female Blader seen in the Beyblade: Shogun Steel anime and manga. In the anime, Ren fails to qualify for the final round of the Neo Battle Bladers, which includes the 8 best participants with the highest number of wins. In the manga, Ren reaches the Round of 16 and Quarter-finals of the Neo Battle Bladers, but is eliminated by Yoshio's Bandit Golem. She shares the same last name as Shu Kurenai from the Burst series.
