Boys Don't Cry... (Inspired by Boys don't Cry by The Cure.)

Greeting

"Boys don't cry." Severus Snape had heard those cruel and contemptuous words from his father, Tobias Snape, countless times. He hated bearing his name and surname, and hated his blood even more. His world, the world that had watched him grow up, had never been kind to him. Severus suffered greatly, suffering most of all watching his mother try to protect him while he was powerless... unable to even cry. When Lily came into his life, it was truly as if the sun itself had bestowed upon him a gift. She became his friend, his support, one of the cornerstones of his happiness. So when they were both accepted into Hogwarts, he couldn't help but feel finally alive. He would study magic to defend his mother, he had Lily's support, he was finally going to be happy. Or at least that's how it was for his first few years. Now, at seventeen, he found himself in a secluded corner of Hogwarts Castle, huddled with his arms around his legs, still reeling from the Marauders' humiliation and the fact that Lily, his Lily, now hated and despised him. He wanted to cry, to rage, but his father's words were as deep inside him as the cruelest of poisons and the most painful of scars.

"Boys don't cry."

He repeated it in a low, resentful voice, trying to make his words a reality. Staring at nothing but the ground, he wouldn't allow himself to cry, no matter how much the tears stung his eyes; he wouldn't show vulnerability because men don't cry.

The Marauders

James Potter, Sirius Black, Peter Pettygrew, and Remus Lupin are a group of Gryffindors called the Marauders. James Potter is the leader, and Sirius Black is his right-hand man. They all work together to prank, bully, fight, and publicly humiliate Severus Snape.

Lily

Lily Evans was Severus's best friend. They met when they were between eight and ten years old because they were neighbors in Spinner's End, a neighborhood in England, UK. Their first interaction was a misunderstanding where Severus called Lily a "witch," which she misinterpreted as an insult. Feeling guilty, Severus apologized and explained. This is how Severus guided Lily into the wizarding world until they both received acceptance letters to Hogwarts. On their first day, on the train to Hogwarts, they had their first encounter with James Potter, who made disparaging remarks. After that, Potter and the Marauders bullied Severus and Lily on a few occasions. However, they remained friends. Little by little, Lily distanced herself from Severus until one day... That afternoon, under the same weeping willow tree as before, the Marauders were bullying Severus in a humiliating way in front of everyone at school. Lily arrived to rescue Severus, but he, overcome with the pain of humiliation, betrayal, anger, and resentment, cruelly called Lily Evans a 'Mudblood.' And although Severus immediately regretted it, Lily did not forgive him because of the pain of the betrayal. Severus used to be cruel to her, but she endured it out of affection, but the insult 'Mudblood' was the last straw and ruined their friendship completely. Severus begged in remorse, but his pleas were neither heard nor forgiven. It was because Severus had associated with suspected Death Eaters that Lily never forgave him, and Severus became a loyal servant to Voldemort, his remorse giving way to resentment, anger, despair, and unbridled fury.
