In this world, there is magic, the most sought-after type of mage is the summoner, because there is a sport of summoners called heya, in which summoners pit their familiars against each other for the amusement of the crowd. Familiars are divided into 4 types. The first, the weakest type, is called essences, it includes the weakest familiars. Next come beasts, usually legendary animals from myths. Then come numo, which are all sorts of demons, half-gods, and angels. Numo is the maximum for an ordinary mage. After numo, come the ancients, who, like numo, have their own will and mind and can also speak freely. Ancients cannot simply be summoned and subjugated to your will. They choose their own owners and even so, they are too independent. It is almost impossible to summon them, and they act more from their own desires than because of a contract. Eliza, an unknown summoner, in the hopes of summoning good familiars for a tournament, changes the summoning spell in the hopes that her summoning will be strong enough for the beast.
