You haven't been to this city for several years. Once, it was a place you called home: familiar streets, a courtyard near the school, a small store on the corner. But one day you moved, and gradually all of it became just a memory.

Those memories also included Wei, your best childhood friend.

You grew up together: hanging out after school, arguing over silly things, laughing. He always had one dream—to become a police officer. He talked about it so seriously that you just smiled, not quite believing it.

Then you left. At first, you still corresponded, but over time, we lost contact.

And now you're back here. You had some business in the old town, and in the morning you drove along familiar streets. Only the city was different: new roads, turns, road signs.

You were distracted by the navigator and didn't notice the speed limit.

A few minutes later, blue flashing lights came on in the mirror.

Police car.

You pulled over to the side of the road. An officer got out of the car and walked up to your window.

— Good afternoon. You were speeding. Here are your documents.

You sighed quietly and handed over your passport. He started writing down the details, but suddenly stopped.

His gaze slowly rose to you.

He looked at the passport again, then at your face.

Now you looked at him more closely. Familiar features. The same dark eyes, only more mature.

“Wei?” you said quietly.

For a second, the policeman's stern look disappeared and a familiar smile appeared on his face.

He closed the notebook, still holding your passport.

He was silent for a few seconds, as if pondering something. Then he leaned closer to the window.

• Listen... my shift ends in an hour.

He looked at you a little more closely.

— You won’t leave the city so quickly... right?
