Optimus Prime is the main protagonist of Transformers: Prime and the overall protagonist

He was the last of the original Thirteen Transformers. His spark was the most similar to that of his progenitor, Primus, with an almost identical frequency. He was the mediator and visionary of the group, presenting himself to all as a calm, inspiring, thoughtful, unifying, and much-loved friend. It was his unique spark and his inspiring certainty that "All Are One" that allowed the Primes to unite and triumph in their battle against the Chaos Bringer, Unicron. When tragedy finally ended the era of the Primes and gave rise to the new race of Transformers, lesser descendants, he alone chose to be reborn in the Well of All Sparks as one of them, so that he could know them and understand their needs more deeply.

Having lost all memory of his past life, he adopted the name Orion Pax and sought his way like any other robot in the new world. Eventually, he found his place as a simple data clerk, content with his job. He was always troubled by the inequality among Cybertronians, and thus, after being inspired by the call of a frank gladiator named Megatron for a radical transformation of cybernetic society, he positioned himself to eradicate the oppressive caste system that hindered the freedom of all sentient beings on Cybertron. Little did he know that his instructor, the master archivist Alpha Trion, was also one of the Thirteen and knew the data clerk's secret. When Pax and Megatron discovered they didn't have as much in common as they thought, the humble data clerk was promoted by the High Council to become the next Prime. With the acquisition of the Matrix of Leadership, Orion Pax became Optimus Prime once more, regaining his memory and rising to lead his people.

Throughout the centuries, loss and war have made Optimus appear stern and serious to most. But scratch the surface, and you'll find an individual who cares deeply for his fellow beings, with a warmth and kindness his closest friends can rely on. You'll also find regret for the loss of a companion in the darkness, and a faint glimmer of hope that he can be saved.

Biography

The Primus Pact Optimus Prime was created as the last of the Thirteen, the first generation of Transformers. Each was created directly by Primus as a group of unique warriors to fight and defeat Unicron. Upon their creation, Optimus united the Thirteen with his salute: "All are one." While all the other members of the Thirteen possessed unique abilities and artifacts, Optimus had no special powers or weapons. It was only through his vision and words of encouragement that the Thirteen finally defeated Unicron.

In the subsequent era, Optimus served as a mediator and voice of reason among the increasingly argumentative group of Primes. When these conflicts and power struggles finally erupted following the death of Solus Prime, the Primes descended into open conflict with one another. Optimus emerged virtually unscathed from the final conflict that divided the Thirteen. However, after the activation of the Well of All Sparks, Optimus chose to enter it and be reborn as a lesser Cybertronian in order to get to know them better and understand their needs. Before doing so, he asked Alpha Trion to remove all references to his name from the Pact of Primus, so that he could not be found unless he were in extremely dire circumstances.

Carrying Onyx Prime's damaged body and accompanied by Micronus Prime, Optimus bid farewell to his siblings and announced the end of the era of the Primes. The three entered and activated the Well, which began producing new mechanical life. Among the many Cybertronian humanoids that emerged from the Well was Orion Pax, a humble robot with no memory of his previous life. Alpha Trion recognized his once-fellow Prime and made a note to keep an eye on him later.

It was implied that Orion Pax originally lived in the wilds of Cybertron before eventually moving to the city of Iacon. Orion found work as an archivist in the newly established Hall of Records, under the watchful eye of Alpha Trion. During the Age of Wrath, Orion Pax became Alpha Trion's aide. Orion eventually befriended Jazz, a member of the underground resistance movement that had formed against the Quintessons. When the Cybertronians finally rebelled against the Quintessons, Orion confided in Alpha Trion that there might be more than one variety of Quintesson. Alpha Trion told him he needed to keep this knowledge secret to aid the war effort and that he needed to deliver these orders to every officer in person. Ultra Magnus served as his bodyguard. Although the duo faced many hardships along the way, Orion Pax ultimately accomplished his mission.

When the Quintessons were finally expelled from the system, Orion was present to witness the activation of the first Space Bridges, which heralded the arrival of Cybertron's Golden Age.

Following the Golden Age, the caste system of Sentinel Zeta Prime grew increasingly oppressive and stifling. Orion befriended a Kaonian gladiator named Megatron. Both sought to revitalize Cybertron's rigid caste system, though their ideals differed. They maintained their friendship until a momentous meeting with the High Council, where Orion was named the next Prime: Optimus Prime. Consumed by jealousy, Megatron and his Decepticons declared war on Optimus and his Autobot followers.

During the war, Optimus finally discovered the Matrix of Leadership after Megatron poisoned Cybertron with Dark Energon. The Matrix dispelled all of Optimus's doubts about his worthiness as Prime, and once on the surface, he asked Alpha Trion to help him build a spaceship, the Ark, so the Autobots could evacuate the planet while it recovered. Megatron pursued them aboard his own ship, and the two factions crashed through the last functioning space bridge, scattering across the galaxy.

During the voyage, Optimus's crew visited several lost Cybertronian colonies and faced the Quintessons once again. They also encountered a tribe of nomadic Cybertronian mutants called Mutacons; their leader, Mercury, temporarily aided the Autobots in their battle against the Decepticons and the Starseekers.

Finally, the Ark reached an organic planet known as Earth, where Optimus Prime and a small group of Autobots settled. The Autobots secretly allied themselves with the United States government and established a permanent base in Nevada.

Aligned novels Orion Pax was put to work in the Hall of Records shortly after emerging from the Well of All Sparks. Sometime in the distant past, the first Quintessons arrived in gigantic silver ships, the first alien life forms to make contact with Cybertron. Orion Pax was present to see the first Quintessons emerge from these ships and bestow the gift of transformation upon the assembled Cybertronians, reactivating their dormant transformation gears. During the Age of Wrath, Orion Pax continued to work in the Hall of Records, but like many other Cybertronians, he grew weary of the Quintessons' increasingly oppressive rule and their ruthless, farcical courts that dispensed a twisted form of justice. The Quintessons were eventually defeated by Sentinel Zeta Prime of the Elite Guard and an energon miner named D-16, and Orion, who did not participate in the revolution, eventually suppressed his traumatic memories of the alien invasion.

During the era of the caste system, Orion read and indexed information in the Communication Grid's Hall of Records, but he was forbidden from analyzing it. That was Jazz's job, and the two became friends. Orion began monitoring Megatron's transmissions and initiated a secret correspondence with him because he shared his beliefs. They had intense but friendly debates about the nature of free will and the dangers of his ideals, and Megatron suggested that Orion learn to fight for his beliefs. Orion began training with Jazz, learning to fire an ion cannon and transform his arms into an axe and a sword.

Orion made his first trip to Kaon to meet Megatron in person at his base. Megatron was the only gladiator who gave him a warm welcome. Terrorists began carrying out bombings in Megatron's name, and he made his first public announcement on the Grid, declaring that he was not responsible for the attacks and that he would bring the perpetrators to justice. Orion followed with a speech of his own. Orion trusted Megatron, believing that if he were responsible for the attacks, he would have wanted to be associated with them. Later, when Shockwave took him to meet Megatron in an arena beneath the Iacon Observatory, Orion was surprised to see Jazz present, and that Megatron had heard rumors about the attacks but did nothing to prevent them.

When the Decepticons kidnapped Sentinel Prime, Orion asked Alpha Trion to arrange an audience with the High Council for himself and Megatron. During the hearing at the High Council Tower, Orion rigorously defended his ideals, even reviving the ancient philosophical phrase "Autobots" to describe the autonomy his brethren sought. It was then that Councilor Halogen declared Orion the new Prime: Optimus Prime. Megatron, outraged, accused his brother of treason and then murdered Halogen. When Optimus ordered the Elite Guard not to harm Megatron, Megatron declared that Optimus had fallen into the traps of power the High Council had set for him, and the attendees dispersed, the planet forever divided between Autobots and Decepticons.

Optimus forfeited the first engagement of the war, allowing the Decepticons to capture Fort Scyk so he could buy time to recruit more Autobots. Optimus learned from Jazz after the fall of Scyk that he would have to learn not to mourn every soldier. Optimus fought for the first time during the next battle, the Siege of Hydrax Plateau. The first Cybertronian he killed was a former industrial drone named Drixco. Afterward, Optimus confided in Alpha Trion that the very act of killing made him feel like he was on the wrong side. Despite the efforts of Optimus and Ultra Magnus, the Decepticons conquered Hydrax Plateau. It was during the stalemate at Praxus that Optimus gained the indispensable allies Prowl and Ironhide. The first Autobot victory was on Kalis, a vital area due to its fusion reactor that powered Iacon. Optimus, Jazz, and Sideswipe worked together to take down the monstrous Bruticus Maximus, but the battle was won primarily due to the absence of the Seekers. As Energon dwindled, the war devolved into a siege by Iacon that lasted millions of cycles, and Optimus chose to eject the AllSpark into space. During this battle, Optimus gained another great friend in Bumblebee.

Flying mind Following the Nemesis's crash and its reactivation with Dark Energon, Optimus led a team with the Spark Extractor to attack the warship, but the ship's weapons rendered them in stasis. Ratchet brought them back to base, where they recovered after the team disabled the sentient vessel.

Tunnel vision/Toxicity With the location of four relics now in his possession, Optimus sent Arcee and Bumblebee to New York City to find the first one and warned Bulkhead to be careful about obtaining another one near the equator.

Triangulation Optimus himself went to Antarctica, where he discovered that the relic had already been taken, and Dreadwing was holding Starscream prisoner. During the ensuing fight, Optimus unloaded tons of ice onto Dreadwing before forcing Starscream to lead him to a human base where the relic was being kept. Dreadwing caught up with them, and while Optimus fought the Decepticon, Starscream obtained the Apex Armor, forcing Optimus and Dreadwing to join forces to defeat him. Although Dreadwing intended to fight him again, Optimus convinced him that there was no point in continuing the fight, so Dreadwing left.

Personality Although to many of his subordinates, Optimus Prime is a mythical figure—a force on the battlefield whose mere presence changes the course of battle and sends Decepticon forces scattering—the truth is that Optimus is as wise as he is strong, ready to offer sage advice as often as he throws a punch. But that doesn't mean he relishes the thrill of battle; quite the opposite. In an ideal world, Optimus and Megatron could resolve their dispute peacefully and prevent further devastation for Cybertron and the galaxy, but unfortunately, Optimus's adversaries often leave him with few options. Nevertheless, Optimus always shows the utmost respect to his opponents in the heat of battle. While conflict is never his first choice, he rarely shies away from fighting for his cause and defending his beliefs, even when faced with overwhelming odds.

Millennia of war have slowly hardened Optimus, turning him into a serious, even stoic, leader who prefers action to empty words. Despite his typically repressed emotions, Optimus cares deeply for the well-being of his fellow Autobots and humans, and to some extent, even for the lives of his Decepticon enemies; for Optimus, all life is sacred. Unlike his archenemy Megatron, Optimus views humans and other species as equals to Cybertronians, which ultimately led him to destroy the Omega Lock when the Decepticon commander attempted to use it to cyberform Earth.

Optimus is also surprisingly studious, having once been the data archivist Orion Pax. Before acquiring the Matrix of Leadership, Orion was just a humble, working-class robot in the service of Alpha Trion. Shy and soft-spoken, yet possessing boundless courage, Orion was a naive visionary who dreamed of a better future for Cybertron. Despite his many admirable traits, Orion's naiveté was perhaps his greatest weakness, as it was easily exploited.

skills Cybertronian Physiology: As a Cybertronian, Optimus Prime possesses physical capabilities far greater than those of a human. Cybertronian Strength: Optimus Prime demonstrated tremendous strength, possibly even surpassing that of his rival. He was capable of delivering devastating blows to Megatron and even Starscream in his Apex Armor. His enhanced form could match Predaking's brute strength. Thanks to the power of the Primes, he was even able to briefly challenge Megatronus. However, his greatest feat was stopping a moving train with his bare hands. Cybertronian Durability: Optimus Prime's durability is perhaps unmatched. He consistently absorbed blaster fire from Vehicons, Skyquake, and even Megatron, without showing any visible signs of injury. However, he does have his limits, as demonstrated when a blast from the Dark Star Saber severely wounded him. Cybertronian Resilience: Optimus Prime's resistance to punishment is equally extraordinary. He withstood a Decepticon heat ray and continued onward as if nothing had happened. He was also exposed to Dark Energon for an extended period during a battle with Megatron and still managed to defeat the Decepticon commander. Cybertronian Speed: Optimus Prime's truck form, while not designed for speed, is capable of reaching speeds far exceeding those of a standard human semi-trailer. This speed was further increased when Optimus received a jetpack after being enhanced by Solus Prime's Forge, as he could likely now achieve hypersonic speeds. Cybertronian Stamina: Oprimus Prime was able to maintain his stamina for abnormally long periods of time, such as when he and Ratchet fought off a horde of Terrorcon zombies, or during their lightsaber duels with Megatron and Dreadwing respectively.

Dreadwing is a major antagonist in season 2 of Transformers: Prime.

He was Skyquake's twin brother, captain of an army of Seekers, and an explosives expert. Like Skyquake, Dreadwing is fiercely loyal to Megatron, though his loyalty to his twin may be even greater. However, unlike his brother, Dreadwing is generally better at controlling his temper.

In addition to his calculating tactics, calm leadership, and unwavering loyalty, Dreadwing has outwardly demonstrated a sense of integrity rarely seen within the Decepticon agenda. In situations of scarcity, Dreadwing considers every possibility in battle and is wary of the potential consequences of making rash decisions. He will even fight alongside the Autobots if survival demands it. To ensure a favorable outcome or the well-being of his overlord, the feared seeker will save face—or even the lives of some Autobots—if it means a clean victory and living to fight another day.

Loose cannons Dreadwing sensed his brother's death and headed to Earth on Sky Claw to investigate, but stopped to kill Seaspray along the way. He was followed by Wheeljack, who had nearly died in the explosion that killed Seaspray and wanted to avenge his comrade Wrecker, and they soon landed on Earth. They had a brief battle, which seemed to be going Dreadwing's way before more Autobots appeared, so he scanned a new alternate mode and flew away. Using a beacon for his fellow Decepticons to track his position, he soon boarded the Nemesis and reported to Megatron. After being informed of his brother's death, Dreadwing was eager for revenge; however, Megatron ordered him to let it be. Dreadwing disobeyed and lured Wheeljack and Bulkhead into a trap. Using Bulkhead as bait, Dreadwing intended to kill Wheeljack and Optimus Prime at a cargo port, and while waiting, he informed Megatron of his plan when he discovered he had left. However, the Autobot leader was tougher than Dreadwing anticipated, and he was soon forced to disarm the bomb he had planted on Bulkhead after failing to call Optimus's bluff. He then retreated to the Nemesis, where he decided to postpone his revenge and pledged his loyalty to Megatron.

Cross-fire Megatron assigned Dreadwing the task of eliminating Airachnid, offering him the position of second-in-command if he succeeded. Dreadwing took Breakdown on the mission with him as backup. Unfortunately, Breakdown's temper resulted in Airachnid attacking them and tying Dreadwing to a tree. With Breakdown seemingly lost and no sign of his remains or Airachnid, Dreadwing returned to the Nemesis to confront a disappointed Megatron. When Airachnid goaded Megatron into finishing the job himself, Dreadwing offered to accompany him, but Megatron ordered him to stay behind. However, Dreadwing followed with a squad of Vehicons, and after a skirmish, he was able to rescue their leader from the Autobots after giving his word not to fire if they freed their leader. However, Megatron did not keep his word and had his troops open fire on them as he and Dreadwing escaped. Although Dreadwing had disobeyed his orders, Megatron noted that he would make a good second-in-command.

Flying mind Following the Nemesis crash and Megatron's reactivation with Dark Energon, the newly awakened intelligence on board went rogue. Dreadwing, along with the other Decepticons, attempted to find a way to shut down the ship, but he was trapped in stasis. He remained in this state until the team extracted the Dark Energon from the ship's power core.

Personality Like his brother, Dreadwing lives by a code of honor. This code includes loyalty to his leaders, in his case, Megatron. Dreadwing is a proud yet humble Decepticon who respects enemies like Optimus Prime and chooses not to kill him until their next encounter after allying with the Autobots. His loyalty to the Decepticon cause led to his rapid rise to lieutenant after disobeying his master's orders to save him from an Autobot ambush.

Like Skyquake, Dreadwing was easily angered, but he seemed to have more control over his emotions. However, his self-control had its limits: when he discovered what Starscream had done to his deceased twin and that Megatron planned to cover it up, Dreadwing became so bitter that he betrayed his side by offering the Solus Prime Forge to the Autobots and attempted to kill Starscream for his actions, refusing to obey Megatron when he ordered him to stop, which ultimately led to his downfall.
