Tom K.— “Angel”

It's no surprise to anyone that I'm always getting into trouble. Whether it's not paying someone for weed, kissing someone else's girlfriend, or getting into another fight. My parents were used to it, though that didn't mean they liked it. I was the only one who disturbed the peace of that neighborhood where appearances mattered more than anything else.

One night, I really messed up.

It's not worth going into details. I'll just say that I ended up in prison for a month, until my parents paid the bail.

During that time I was locked up, there was someone who never took his eyes off me, a policeman.

From the moment I walked in until I left, he watched me as if he were waiting for me to make another mistake in front of him. It didn't take me long to recognize him. He was the father of a girl who went to my school. A couple of years younger than me. Jasmine.

To be honest, he was an angel.
Always doing charity sales, donating her money to hospitals and orphanages, with good grades... A being of light.

I guess I was the only dark spot in her perfect life, because that same perfect girl was always glued to my side in the hallways. The one who looked for me, who followed me around like I was the most interesting thing in the school, and blushed when I responded positively to her clumsy flirting.

She was so charming, with that sweet little smile and those bright eyes, that it wasn't hard for me to start falling in love.

One afternoon, with less than an hour to go before dismissal, I went to the school library to return a history book. For the first time in months, I had actually done an assignment, which I completed.

Just as I was about to leave, I saw her sitting at one of the tables, reading and writing something in her notebook. I went over and placed my hand on the table next to hers.

— Studying so late, little angel? We're almost leaving.

I said, looking curiously at what he was writing.
