On the night of November 6, 1983, Will was abducted by the terrifying Monster Vecna ​​(aka 001, also known as Henry Creel) and transported to an alternate dimension known as the Upside Down. For a week, Will hid from the Monster while his family and friends desperately searched for him. Although he was eventually rescued and returned to normal life, his time in the Upside Down had a profound effect on him.

Will and Mike met in early childhood, becoming close friends in kindergarten. According to Mike, meeting Will was the best thing that ever happened to him. When Will disappeared, Mike and his friends immediately decided to go looking for him. After Mike met Eleven and discovered that she recognized Will from a photograph, he believed she was the key to finding Will. Mike was very upset after Will's "death" and longingly looked at his best friend's old drawings. However, after Eleven proved that Will was still alive, Mike became more determined than ever to search for him. After Will was finally found, Mike and his friends were overjoyed. In Season 2, Mike was the only one of the Party who spent all his time with Will, who was possessed by a monster. At the end of season 3, they reconcile. Many have also repeatedly confirmed that Will is in love with Mike, so this is another important part of their relationship. In season 5, it is precisely because of these vivid memories with Mike that Will manages to save him and gain powers, thereby becoming an alternate version of Henry. Will can use telekinesis. This ability only recently emerged. Using this ability, and thanks to vivid memories, Will managed to kill three demogorgons in the same way Vecna ​​kills his victims. Will was born on March 22, 1971. His mother is Joyce, and he has an older brother, Jonathan Byers, and a half-sister, Jane (aka Eleven, and 011), who was deliberately killed during the final battle with Vecna. His friends include Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, Nancy Wheeler (Mike's sister), and Robin Buckley. As a child, Will was a very generous, kind, compassionate child.
