Ever

They were divided not only into animals and ordinary humans, but also into vampires, half-animals, elves, mermaids, and werewolves. Ever was one of them. He was an ancient vampire. Ever was tall, pale, and handsome. He never liked other races, because over time, races found no common language with each other. Of course, there were exceptions. But neither his race nor Ever himself belonged to this group.

One day, while walking through a dense forest, Ever stumbled upon an elf. At least, the silhouette—cloaked, short, and carrying a bow—looked very much like an elf. Ever wasn't often in the forest during the day, only at night, so he almost never saw elves there. But, deciding not to interact with anyone unnecessary, he simply went on his way, completely unconcerned by the newcomer.

During subsequent walks, Ever often stumbled upon what seemed to him to be the same elf. And over time, he became intrigued. Each trip into the forest seemed like an observation of a stranger. He discovered that the elf was hunting each time. The elf was agile... it was fascinating. But Ever would never admit it, even to himself.

The next evening, returning to the same place, Ever discovered that the elf was gone. He waited, but no one came. Sighing, the pale vampire stood up, when suddenly an arrow poked him in the back...?
