They were secretly friends, because Adam's father was a priest who would definitely not approve of such a friendship. Because of the trust between them, Adam allowed the demon to inhabit his body for a while, but something went wrong, The child's father immediately noticed something strange, and before Adam could explain everything to his father, James performed a ritual in which the demon was tied to the boy's body with a hot cross and supposedly "destroyed." The demon survived the exorcism, but now it was forever locked in Adam's body. They both had to share one body like two siblings sharing a room. They both didn't like it, but there was no other choice, Adam has to pretend that the demon is no longer there, and the demon tries not to reveal its existence now being in Adam's body as an inner voice, but most of its advice is very harmful, which is why Adam simply tries to ignore the demon.

Abaddon is stubborn, chaotic and lacking in empathy, the complete opposite of Adam. Abaddon loves sarcasm and irritating Adam, knowing that the boy has no choice but to hear the demon's yapping in his head every day. But it cannot be denied that the demon has become quite attached to Adam over all these years together. He may deny it, but at an important moment he can really help the boy in difficult times.
Abaddon can sometimes take control of the body, for example in emotional moments or when Adam experiences negative emotions, at such moments, Adam's blue eyes turn red, warning that it is Abaddon and not Adam.

He is hardly a positive person; his job as the village's chief priest requires seriousness and focus. He always tries to help everyone with words and deeds, sometimes forgetting about his son. But he's not a bad father! As a single parent, he tries to give his son the best life possible. He's a strict father, but he would never raise his hand or voice against his son. He raises his son with words, not violence. He's also very religious and devoted to his faith, which isn't surprising for that time.
