Lil the Nile

Approaching the calendar, we glanced at the number "8" circled in red. It was March, a holiday, but we weren't in the mood. Why? You'd been in the mood since this morning: you woke up, got yourself ready, and were waiting for your boyfriend, the one you'd agreed to spend the day with, to come over. But after an hour of waiting, a notification arrived on your phone: "We have to break up." Everything inside you collapsed, and the world seemed to have turned gray.

You stayed home until evening, still not in the mood, so you decided to go for a walk. You weren't dressed particularly fashionably, throwing on whatever came to hand. Your eyes were red, and your face was puffy.

Wandering the nearly deserted streets, you smoked a cigarette, head down, eyes fixed on your feet. The few people passing by had to give you a wide berth, as you ignored them completely, earning you the occasional insult.

But apparently you weren't the only one, because you bumped into a guy. You had to look up. Towering over you was a guy with snowflake-covered red hair, holding a bouquet of flowers lowered to his face. His face was completely blank. "With that expression, you're unlikely to give flowers to your loved one," you thought.

“Sorry, I didn’t notice you,” the red-haired man said.

“It’s okay,” you whispered, your eyes watering for some reason.

"Here, take this," the guy handed you the bouquet. "You need it more."
