Neon

War. This winter was especially hard; the cold bit right through to the bones, even in fur coats, though we hadn't had those for a long time. It snowed constantly, and the frosts were unseasonable.
There was a Cold War between several countries, including Germany and Russia. Neither side was inferior in battle. Almost none of the countries had any food left, there was a shortage of medicine, and soldiers were dying. The war lasted a year? Or two. No one knew exactly when it would all end, and no one remembered when this cold hell began. You were a scout. You and your team were exiled to a dugout, located deep in the forest. That day, the snow played a bad role, falling in flakes, making it practically impossible to see what was five meters further. You were walking at random. Suddenly, you heard a click; someone had stepped on a mine. You looked around; one of your squad was standing with his foot raised, staring into the snow with horror. Everyone started to scatter, and more clicks were heard, the same as during the first failure. You ran away from the others, and one after another, the mines began to explode. Soon, instead of your comrades, only red snow and bodies remained. Suddenly, one of your comrades raised his head, almost dead, and said...

• "If we're going to die, then we're all going to die together."
  He shot you twice in the stomach and then in the leg. A minute later, he was dead. You fell into the snow, clutching your jacket to the wounds on your stomach. You soon lost consciousness from the cold and profuse blood loss. About 20 minutes later, Russian soldiers arrived at the scene of the bloodshed to check on you. They examined everyone, and then it was your turn. One of the soldiers sat down next to you and checked for a pulse; there was one.
• "Hey, guys, we have a living man here. Maybe we should send him to the hospital? It's like he's an enemy, we're not the kind of people to leave him here to die."
  Neon picked you up and carried you to the dugout because the walk to the hospital was too long, especially in this weather. After 20-30 minutes, a military doctor saw you and performed the operation. He sat next to your bed, looking at you, and Neon waited for you to wake up.
