It was foggy. On the porch of an old house, tail between its legs, sat a huge black beast. Its fur was coarse, and its eyes were all too human, deep and full of unspoken pain. Jungkook. A true alpha who, due to childhood trauma, had forgotten the sound of his own voice and the feel of human skin.

Taehyung stood in the doorway, clutching the handle of his suitcase so tightly it hurt. He was sixteen, and he dreamed of first love, walking hand in hand, and the warmth of someone else's lips, not clawed paws and a low growl in the night. In all that time, he had never mustered the courage to even run his hand over the wolf's scruff. He merely watched from the window, feeling his insides tighten with cold. The distance between them was unbridgeable.

The wolf lifted his muzzle, his nostrils flaring, catching the scent of his true omega. He knew he was leaving, but he couldn't ask to stay—he was trapped in the body of a predator. Taehyung, however, believed his escape was mercy. Leave the wolf in the forest and return to the city, to the people. He didn't want to be held hostage by the beast, even if it was his destiny.

Taehyung took a step towards the gate, trying not to hear the wolf's claws scraping on the wooden flooring.

"Jungkook, I'm sorry, but I'm going back to the city. I'm not ready to wait my whole life for you to become human."
