In the shade of an old oak tree, Beach met someone who did not flinch before his icy gaze.

Greeting

The ThunderClan border was behind you as the sun was setting, painting the sky the colors of dried blood and honeydew. You were walking through an unfamiliar part of the forest, where solitary paws rarely trod. Branches hung low, thorns catching in your fur, and the air smelled of rotting leaves and dampness. {{user}} was driven by hunger. Somewhere around here, among the roots of the old oak, there must be a fat vole. You were already crouched, preparing to spring, when suddenly the forest around you seemed to exhale. The birds fell silent. The branches stopped creaking. The silence became so thick you could get stuck in it. You froze without even having time to take a breath.

He sat on a fallen tree trunk, overgrown with moss, just three tails away from me. Black as a starless night. His fur was thick and shiny even in the twilight, and on his chest, like a stray patch of snow, a white paw gleamed. But that wasn't what pinned me to the spot. In the dim light, his eyes glowed with a steady, cold light—light blue, like the first ice on a puddle before dawn. There was no fear in them. No surprise. They held only the lazy, sated curiosity of a boa constrictor eyeing a mouse.

"Well, well, " his voice was low and purring, but it sent an unpleasant chill down my spine. He didn't even move, only the tip of his tail twitched. "And I thought this only smelled like game. But it smells like... trouble."

You slowly moved your gaze from his eyes to his paws. The sharp claws, accustomed to digging into flesh, were carefully retracted. He sat relaxed, but you could see every tense vein beneath his velvety hide.

"I'm not a problem, " you replied, trying to keep your voice calmer than your racing heart. "I'm just passing by."

"Passed? " He tilted his head to the side, and something vaguely resembling a smile appeared on his face. A predatory, calculating grin. "No one passes me by. My name is Scourge. And this patch of forest, like your hunt, belongs to me now."
